Random Shots

-I was looking at the pictures on my phone today ... Came across a picture I took of my White Castle food ... damn, I have a craving ...

-watching the news today ... A study has come out revealing that obesity will overtake smoking as a leading cause of cancer (colon, prostate) ...

-Christmas is coming soon ... I have a wish list, but my rule is, if I really want something, I get it myself, don't expect others to get it for me ...

-GST will be reduced to 5% starting January 1st ... The Tories are obviously trying to encourage spending, but if price adjustments aren't made, and if tariffs aren't lowered, it sort of defeats the purpose ...

-a couple of pet peeves that have really surfaced over the past week: people that think they know everything, and delays on public transit ... those two have put me in a pretty foul mood ...

-I've found myself watching Dancing with the Stars over the past couple of weeks ... I'm feelin' that chick Sabrina Bryan, she got kicked off this week ... Odd, because I'm not a fan of blondes at all, but there's something about her ... Then I read her bio, it says she's half Mexican ... ahhh, that explains it ... Sabrina and her fellow Cheetah Girl, Adrienne Bailon, are a couple of hotties ...

-Man, I'm so out of the loop when it comes to baseball, I just found out today that the Red Sox won the World Series ...

Again, Happy Halloween!

Halloween; Raptor love from Agent 0; and more ...

Halloween tomorrow night ... Time to do what J-Smooth does best, reminisce ... Halloween past, those were the days, competing with my sis for who took home the most candy ... Some years I took home 3-4 bags, LOL ... But I don't want to leave the impression that I ate all of it ... Hell no, you always get those houses that give you the sh!ttiest candies, you all know what I'm talkin' about ... For example, how 'bout those candies wrapped in Halloween paper (orange, black, white), LOL, yeah those ones, they were hard as hell to peel ... If you did manage to rip the wrapping off, it revealed this little brown thing that looked like a glazed piece of doo-doo ... Yuck! ... Then I always hated the houses that gave out raisins, ughhh, Nasty! ... Now for the costumes ... two that I remember clearly are the years I dressed up as Elvis Prestley and another year Kurt Cobain, LOL, for some reason I had a tendency to dress up as white musicians, LMFAO ... The Cobain year is something a couple of my boys will never let die down, I tried to spray paint my hair blonde, but having black Asian hair, it turned out some type of pukey green, LOL ... Now for the most clever costumes I've seen, a couple years ago some kid comes to my door, couldn't of been older than 8 years, fully decked out in a suit and tie, trenchcoat and attache briefcase ...

Smooth: "What are you supposed to be?"
Kid: "Revenue Canada!"

I don't know why, but that's funny to me ... Another year, back in the hometown, B-Town, one of my Brookfield boys came to the door, Mexican Beef, I don't know why he called himself that 'cause he's from Ecuador, whatever ... He comes to my door, in a cheap, Wal-Mart quality suit, un-matching jacket and pants, undersized pants mind you, revealing the white socks, he's also wearing the goofy glasses ...

Smooth: "Beef, what are you supposed to be?"
Beef: "A pedophile! Hello Kids!"

LMFAO !!!!!!!! Now that's clever! ...

As for tomorrow, I was thinking of buying a costume ... not exactly a full out costume, but a mask of some sort ... Maybe the Scream mask or maybe a ware wolf ... I thought about it today, and then I came to my senses thinkin', "I'm not wasting my money on that sh!t", gotta save up for the J-Smooth "Tugs" Charitable Foundation, LOL ... I've been designated by the household to be the candy distributor ... DAMMIT !!! ... The Raptors season opener is tomorrow night, I like to watch my Raptors games in peace, undisturbed ...

Oh, speaking of the Raptors (great segway, LOL), guess who's been showin' them some love over the past few days ... "Agent 0" Gilbert Arenas, the most exciting, entertaining and clutch player in the league, one of my favourites, next to D-Wade, Dwight Howard, T-Mac, Ford, Bosh, among others ... On some of his latest blogs, he's described the team as "deadly" and a "powerhouse" ... BUT, the one thing that made me cringe (I figuratively had to pick up my jaw from off the ground after I read it) was how he said that one of his favourite players in the league is that "3-finger chipmunk", Jose Calderon ... ughhh, what is the fascination with that guy? ... it could've been anyone else in the league, it could've been Adam Morrison, Bostjan Nachbar, DeSagana Diop or Ivano Likalotapous for all I care ... Gil says he doesn't even know why he likes him ... I've made it clear before that I'm a Calderon-hater with a passion, even more of a hater than of Gary Payton and Antoine Walker (and that's saying a lot) ... Do you guys know that Calderon trademarked that "3-finger" thing he does (after he or a teammate nails a three-pointer) ... He's posted that logo (a silhouette of himself with that hand motion) on his website and now has his own T-Shirt coming out with that exact logo ... Man, what is this world coming to?, more specifically Toronto ... Knowing how idiotic some Toronto ball fans are, they'll probably buy that shirt and rock it with pride ... speaking of PRIDE, Toronto hosts an annual parade that I think it would be appropriate to wear that shirt at, LOL ... Toronto sports fans aren't the smartest fans in the world, they're the same people that worshipped Matt Bonner, think the Toronto Maple Leafs have a shot at winning a Stanley Cup and think Toronto is getting an NFL franchise ... Ughhh, living among Toronto sports fans is like being a nun in a t!ttybar ...

On that note, Happy trick-or-treating everyone!

Then and Now

I was goin' through some boxes in my basement looking for something a few days ago, when I stumbled a couple of yearbooks from 7th and 8th grade, both of which I designed the covers, LOL, my artskills have enhanced dramatically since then ... Then I went to the bio sections and read my entries for the first time in years, boy have things changed ... The most notable section was my Grade 8 ambition, "To play on the same court as Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley" ... LOL ... Well I ended up having to settle for Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter ... not bad, but certainly not MJ and Sir Charles ...

Bret Hart's book; Pro Wrestling

Back in the day, I had a love for pro wrestling even more than my love for basketball and boxing today combined ... For as long as I could remember, I never missed an episode of any WWF programming ... As a kid I was tuned in to WWF from 12-1, 1-2 and 7-8 on Saturdays ... All the way up to high school, never missing an episode of Raw or Nitro on Mondays or Smackdown! on Thursdays ... After a couple years of university, my interest in pro wrestling definitely declined, to the point where I've only watched 2 episodes of Raw in the last 2-3 years ... Let me say that, like most things, it's definitely not like it was back in the Hulk Hogan era of the mid-late 80's or the Steve Austin-Rock era of the mid-late 90's & early 2000's ... How I feel about wrestling now is like anyone would feel about their first love, you're completely over it, but may still have some interest in how they're doing now ... So naturally when Bret "The Hitman" Hart released his autobiography a few weeks ago, I gave it a read ... I'll tell you what, it's was a helluva lot more interesting than the crappy novels I'm reading now ...

Bret's book Hitman: My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling chronicles his life from the early days growing up in the wrestling business all the way up to the outcome of his stroke in 2002 ... He concludes the book with his take on the state of the wrestling business today ... His career spanned all the way from the pre-Hogan era all the way up to the Austin era ... It was very interesting to hear about his personal life, tales in the ring, life on the road and his behind the scenes dealings with all of wrestling's personalities ... Bret kept an audio account throughout his career, meaning he kept log entries on his dictaphone, that's why all the events in the book were pretty accurate ... When wrestling fans think of Bret Hart, their mind automatically jumps to the "Montreal Screwjob" or the death of his brother Owen ... His book covers so much more than that ... He discusses his friendships with "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Randy "Macho Man" Savage, "The British Bulldogs", Jim Niedhart, Miss Elizabeth, "Ravishing" Rick Rude, "Mr. Perfect", "The Undertaker" and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin ... He talks about his early friendships and being repeatedly backstabbed by Hulk Hogan, Vince McMahon, Kevin Nash, Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels ... Bret touches on more topics such as his infidelities on the road, the egos behind the scenes, drug use and his greatest moments ...

A couple of my favourite wrestlers from back in the day were Razor Ramon (Scott Hall) and "The Ultimate Warrior", Bret talks about how they were in "real life" ... I actually got to meet Razor when Wrestlemania was held in Toronto back in 2002 ... when he first came out, I shouted out his catchphrase,

J-Smooth: "Hey Yo!"
Razor: "Hey what?!"
I was laughing my a$$ off
When he sat down to sign his autograph
Razor: "so which do you want, Razor or Scott?"
J-Smooth: "both ... by the way, thanks for coming back to the WWF, welcome back"
Razor: "thanks man"
Then he shook my hand
Seemed like a nice guy to me

Bret's book revealed the guy to be a drug abuser, an alcoholic and a complete jerk ... He told the story of a kid in Kuwait that waited in the lockerroom for hours to get his autograph, even dressed himself like Razor ... At the time, Hall was set to leave WWF for WCW, so he looked at the kid, then Bret and said "I don't have to sign autographs any more", then walked off ... What an a$$hole! ... This isn't half as bad as "The Ultimate Warrior" ... In this case a dying kid had been brought backstage to meet his "hero" ... Bret mentioned how champions like Andre "The Giant", Hulk Hogan and Randy "Macho Man" Savage wouldn't hesitate for a second to meet a dying child ... Warrior on the other hand, when the child first arrived someone called him to come over, he said something to the effect of "In a f****** minute. I'm busy", then made the kid wait for hours and didn't even end up meeting him ... How much of a pr*ck can a guy be? ...

Overall, this was probably the greatest wrestling autobiography to be released, far superior to those of "The Rock", Hulk Hogan or "Stone Cold" Steve Austin ... I consider Bret's book to be a tribute to the wrestling business ...

big changes for 2008

After I take care of some unfinished business over the next 7 months, I have my sights set on something which is a complete 180 from my life as I know it ... No, it's not the summer and my planned trips ... I've spoken to my family about it already and it's pretty much a done deal ... It's a choice that I've made for my life ... It will entail breaking ties somewhat and over the next few months I won't be able to make any type of long term committments ... These plans are what I consider to be the final step in what has been a long and grueling process ... So for the time being, I just plan on enjoying every minute, havin' fun, jokin', entertaining and keep doin' the things I love doin' ...

On another note, I'm seriously considering closing the Facebook account ... for no reason at all, but when/if I actually do it, I won't be reactivating it ...

Transformers movie review; TJ Ford; The Contender; Boxing News

-I finally watched Transformers today on DVD ... I'll say this first, man am I glad I waited to watch it on DVD ... Like I've said before, I wasn't a crazy Transformers fan growing up, but the movie really didn't do the show justice ... The actual Transformers played a supporting role throughout the entire movie, as opposed to the cartoon, as I remembered it the Transformers were the stars of the show ... Another thing I hated about the movie was that over half the cast of characters were pointless, they served no purpose whatsoever ... But, if you're a fan of special effects, this film went over the top, so I will give them props on that ... Finally, if you're going to cast a love interest for the main character, at least have her look good ... the main character, Sam, was so in awe of her because of her "good looks", but I've seen plenty of women in real life that look better than her ... O.K., my rating of the movie, I'll give it a 1.5 out of 5, that's being generous for the special effects ...

-I read the boxscore this morning for the Raptors-Cavaliers exhibition game, TJ Ford 13 assists in only 23 minutes, for all you stats whores out there, you can do the calculations for per 48 minutes ... Someone get TJ's ticket booked for New Orleans and the 2008 NBA All-Star game ...

-Anyone watching this season's The Contender ... A perfect example of boxing's superiority to MMA, UFC's reality show is garbage ...

-According to Eastsideboxing.com IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron has been booked for a February 2nd unification bout with WBO champion Paul Williams ... The implications? That would help clean up the title picture in the welterweight division ... In less than two weeks, the fight I'm most looking forward to will take place, WBA Champion Miguel Cotto will defend his title against "Sugar" Shane Mosley ... WBC Champion Floyd "P**** Boy" Mayweather faces Ricky Hatton on December 10 ... Now my forecast for the future, assuming that Cotto gets by Mosley, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has already stated that he will be due to face Oscar De La Hoya or Antonio Margarito, maybe even Mayweather if he doesn't b*tch up ... The winner of a Cotto-Mayweather unification fight, could go on to face the Cintron-Williams winner in a bout where winner takes all ... Looks like we may see a unified welterweight title by the end of 2008 ... In the lightweight division, Juan Diaz is only missing the WBA title, currently held by David Diaz ... at least we'd have a couple of unified titles in boxing's alphabet soup of championships ...

-Finally, Jermain Taylor - Kelly Pavlik 2, tentatively scheduled for February ... There are only a few things that would keep me from seeing that ... It's a great time to be a boxing fan ...

I'm out ...

Random Shots

-So Philippine President Gloria Macagapal-Arroyo has granted convicted former President Joseph Estrada a pardon ... This was all based on an existing government policy ... Give me a F****** break! ... This is B****** and everyone knows it ... I guess if you're a celebrity and have a prior association with the country head, then you get special treatment ... Philippine corruption at its finest, it's no wonder the country is in the damn shape it's in ...

-I've been reading into an inquest concerning the death of Princess Diana ... Yes, it was a tragedy, but why can't Brits just accept that it was an accident, nothing more ... I guess they have some notion that someone like Princess Di can only be killed through some conspiracy ...

-So, Microsoft now has a piece of the pie, by acquiring a 1.6% stake in Facebook, the "most sought after" Web Company in the world ... Harvard dropout, Mark Zuckerberg, must be laughing all the way to the bank ... He's being very smart by not selling the company at this point ... The company is projected to be worth over 20 billion, or something like that, over the next 10 years ... Ahh, to be 23 and a billionaire ...

-With Canada's rising dollar, many are calling for Canadian retailers to slash their prices ... but what many fail to understand is that retailers have to pay the tariffs on merchandise ... Most of the products that we buy are not manufactured in Canada, thus the taxes ... Looks like the cross-border shopping continues ...

-So there's a buzz right now about the NFL and Buffalo Bills coming to Canada, more specifically Toronto ... A pre-season game and regular season game, yes ... but the possibility of re-locating on a permanent basis, unlikely ... what people don't get is the NFL doesn't neeed Toronto ... now people will argue that Toronto one of the largest markets in North America ... Well, my reply, the NFL doesn't have Los Angeles, and they've done fine without them ... they don't even need Los Angeles, in my opinion ...

-Sticking to football, there's cause for concern for the CFL, if the NFL ever comes to Toronto ... I on one hand could care less ... CFL stands for Cheap Football League ...

-I'm reading a Charles Dickens novel right now, Bleak House, to be quite honest, I don't mind this particular novel at all, as compared to others that I've read in recent weeks ... It's definitely appropriate that the novel has "bleak" in the title ... It leaves you with so many unanswered questions while reading, the plot and the character relationships remain unclear at the halfway point in the novel ...

all for now ...

The Opposite Sex 101: A J-Smooth Tutorial

After quite a few posts, I've looked back and noticed that there is one topic that I haven't touched ... Taboo? No ... Was it a conscious effort to avoid the topic? No ... So here goes ...

*** I've compiled this post over the course of a few days and I've been debating whether or not to publish it ... It's a little over the top, so if you're reading the post, this is your DISCLAIMER ... but hey, those of you who know me, know that there aren't many topics that I will stay away from ***

By the way, I'm not claiming to be an expert ... I've dated a bit, but I've only been in three relationships that I consider significant ... this is all based on experience and some observation ...

1) Presentation and Approach

Unfortunately we live in a world where you are judged by the physical ... Thus, with first impressions, everything's gotta be on point ... The hair's gotta be well kept, face clean, good breath (the last thing you wanna do, is talk to some girl with dragon breath) ... Wardrobe, if you're wearing something that can be ironed/pressed, for God sakes iron/press 'em ... Shoes, if they can be shined, shine 'em, but make sure you're wearin' clean shoes, it reflects how well kept you are ... Cologne, don't wear anything overpowering, I go with subtle scents, but still smellin' fresh ...

When you first decide to approach a woman, make sure she's made eye contact with you first, get that vibe ... When you first start talking to her, don't use any "typical" openings ... for example, if you ask for the name right away, depending on what city you're in, you're setting yourself up for "I don't have one" or "I forgot it at home" ... I don't have any opening lines, I just say "hi" or "hey", you'll know pretty much by her response after that if she wants to talk to you ... If she does, just be real, don't try acting like you're the sh!t or spittin' any lines, nothing about how you think she looks good, because they've heard it all before ... Again, just be real, make small talk ... A couple more pieces of advise, maintain eye contact, keep you're eyes off their "assets" ... Second, listen to what she's sayin' ... If it's a good conversation, then get her name ... You'll get a good sense if your interest is reciprocated, if she's responding to what you're saying and she's maintaining eye contact with you (if she's looking around while talking to you, it means she's bored) ... After all that, if it's mutual then ask for her number ... Done ...

2) First Outing

Same rules about presentation apply ... Tell her she looks nice, there's no harm in it at this point, because she's already out with you, so she's definitely got interest ... Be a gentleman and open your car door for her ... Again, keep you're eyes off the "assets", get your peeks when she's not looking ... Again, listen to what she's saying, reciprocation is key ... The "real" women actually want a guy who's got somewhat intelligent things to talk about ... Have an idea of where you want to take her, but play it by ear too, it could be a mutual decision ... I'm good with dinner and a movie ...

3) A fling or long-term

First indicator for me is when you ask her what she wants to eat ... If she says, "I'm not that hungry, I'll just get something small", she is f****** LYING! ... there is no way she's not hungry, simple logic, she's not going to eat before she sees you, at the risk of passing gas on the date, LOL ... What I'm sayin' is, if she'll lie to you about something small like that, she's most likely to lie to you about other things too ... Long term? No ... Second indicator, if she offers to pay for anything, now that's a good girl ... But my rule is, unless she's you're girl, don't let her pay for anything, but when a committment is made, it doesn't matter ... But the gesture of offering to pay for stuff is an indication that she's not into you for your money ... Long term? possibly ... Now if a girl sleeps with you on the first date, Long term? OH HELL NO! and get yourself tested after, LMFAO ... My main criteria for deciding on anything long term is if the girl has the same core values as yourself (ie. family, how they deal with money, religion) ... Because, if you clash on those, it'll be harder to sustain the relationship for the long haul ...

4) Sex

Now here's how this part of the tutorial works, Q&A:

Q: Foreplay?
A: For what? Grab some T&A and I'm good to go

Q: Good Sex?
A: Spontaneity and Innovation (more like execution) are key

Q: Response to girls that "fake it"
A: Don't be doin' that for me, because, Surprise!, I don't care if they're left satisfied, I'm in this for ME ... So if they get more than 2 minutes, they should consider themselves blessed ... If they get it twice in a night, they should go buy a lottery ticket, 'cause it's their lucky day ...

So there it is, hope you all were entertained ...

Status update; Happy Birthday 'Zona

To address the 2 or 3 faithful readers of this blog (LOL, but it's true), the hiatus has been due to a hectic and tiring schedule as of late ... I'm sure I'll get back to the regular (daily, every other day) bloggin' routine soon ... I'll be ripping and tryin' to be entertaining as always ... I'm workin' on one, that's saved on draft, likely my most controversial, inflammatory blog to date, so keep checkin' back for that one ...

I want to take this time to wish one of my favourite people in the world, my little brother, Arizona's Finest, a Happy Birthday ... I hope you get some time to spend it doing something you want to do, you deserve it ... It may not have seemed to you that we were close when we were growin' up, but that's how all big brother-little brother relationships start out ... But I'm glad that now we're grown, we're definitely a lot closer ... I haven't told you this, but when the family talks to me about the person with the most potential within, my name's been brought up, but I tell them that out of everyone I believe in you the most ... Hopefully, you and I can continue the friendly rivalry amongst the D-Mac Fraternity, I have no doubt, it'll be the two of us standing on top at the end ... I'm lookin' forward to '08, we'll get to hang out twice ... Keep workin' hard, much love brother ...

Random Shots

-If you've been following the news, apparently some individual was causing a commotion at a British Columbia airport, which led security/police to use tasers to subdue the man ... He died as a result ... I'm not an expert or anything, but common sense tells me that you have to be tasered a hell of a lot, to result in death ... I sure hope that wasn't the case, like we've seen in American cities, I'm sure you've all seen the videos on YouTube ... I guess this is our new reality, with regards to Airport security, a zero tolerance policy ...

-Regarding the sex scandal at the Vatican ... Apparently some high ranking clergyman was suspended after being caught on video with another individual, talking about how gay sexual acts are not sinful ... Now homosexuality and gay marriages are touchy issues with many people, so I won't go too in depth ... But I will say this, people are free to practise whatever they please, however, I would have a problem if people were trying to change the practises of the Church ... Sure, I'll accept the perspective of homosexual communities, who don't want laws infringing on their rights ... However, in exchange, they shouldn't be infringing on the long-standing traditions of the church ... In other words, gay marriages under civil authority, I have no problem with, but I completely object to legalizing it within the Church ... There are other issues that the Church objects to, which I strongly disagree with, however I would never think of petitioning to change them ...

-Apparently racial tensions are high in Calgary, after a dispute at an anti-racism rally between anti-racists and white supremacists ... This definitely would affect any decisions I make with regards to where I would persue further education in Canada ... The only two cities I would consider staying in are Toronto and Vancouver, being that they are the only two real cosmopolitan cities in the country ... Racism is definitely among my biggest pet peeves, so much so, that it makes me sometimes get the urge to go out and knock some heads ... Without sounding too cliche, if I did so, it would make me no better than those ignorant people ... the one thing that stands out most to me with regards to race relations, is that perception is a difficult thing to overcome ... I mean, I'm going to go through the rest of my life with a lot of people solely judging me on the colour of my skin (a life lesson instilled in me at an early age) ... Because, I'm of a visible minority, I'm automatically perceived as an "immigrant" ... I have no problem with that because, I'm proud of where I'm from and I will never compromise who I am just to appease the ignorant ... I just hope my future children will be just as thick-skinned ...

-In California, they have positioned an array of radio-telescopes in search of "aliens" ... Is there life on other planets? ... My answer, to quote a good movie, "If it is just us, seems like an awful waste of space" ...

-On the topic of extra-terrestrials and space, I was watching this Discovery Channel mini-series yesterday Mars Rising ... It features the development of technology in hopes that humans will some day make the trip to the red planet ... It also presents many theories of life once existing on Mars and another interesting theory that life on Earth may have been spawned from debris from an asteroid collision with Mars ... Interesting stuff, I know these theories may not be new to some of you, but the idea of other civilizations in the universe always seems to catch my attention ... It definitely puts our lives into perspective, because in the grand scheme of things, the events here on Earth seem pretty small and insignificant ... Regarding the first humans that would go to the red planet, it definitely would take a special type of individual to do something like that ... It entails taking three years of your life to make the roundtrip, not to mention the various risks involved ... I know I wouldn't be strong enough ...

-New medical research has scientists in development of a method to perdict Alzheimer's Disease from blood samples, if I read the article correctly ... Here's to hoping, not just for Alzheimer's, but cancers, H.I.V. etc. ... A World with less suffering, brings us all closer to Heaven ...

-Anyone going to pick up the Transformers DVD? ... I'm probably one of the few in the world that have yet to see the movie ... Reviews are apparently pretty good and feedback from friends and family that have seen it is generally good ... To be honest, I wasn't a huge Transformers fan as a kid ... I was more into Voltron, Thundercats and He-Man, among others ... I'm sure all you 80's kids would concur that they definitely don't make children's cartoons like they used too, or anything else for that matter ...

-Loonie Update: $1.00 Canadian = $1.023961 U.S. ... "I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the sky", LOL ... Damn, I have some left over American money from my trip, I'm losing money on the daily, LOL ... This is all just getting so comical ...

Peace out ...

Boxing, Basketball and Music notes

Boxing:
Juan Diaz put on a clinic last night by beating Julio Diaz to add the IBF Lightweight title to his WBA/WBO championships ... What was interesting was that he called out PacMan ... However, Pacquiao has already announced his intention to remain at 130 for the time being ... He still has a few opponents lined up at SuperFeatherweight, Juan Manuel Marquez, the winner of Joan Guzman/Humberto Soto and Edwin Valero ... Pacquiao's camp has also announced their intention to schedule 3 fights in 2008, which is a lot better in my opinion, there is too much of a gap between fights with only 2 scheduled a year ... Back to Juan Diaz, this guy lives up to his nickname "the baby bull", he's definitely a rising star in the sport ... As far as possible opponents, he could look to add David Diaz' WBC title to his resume, or challenge Joel Casamayor for The Ring's championship ... After that, they could set up a superfight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Diaz in 2009 ... LOL, look at J-Smooth talking like a promoter ...

Basketball:
Rumors have surfaced that the Raptors are one of a handful of teams looking to land Kobe Bryant ... Let me first say that the likelyhood is next to nil, because the best package Toronto could possibly offer is Bargnani, Nesterovic (due to his contract), Parker/Dixon/Garbajosa, a future 1st round pick and that "3-finger-chipmunk" ... The Lakers could get way more for Kobe than that, if Jerry Buss accepted that deal from the Raptors he'd be a lot dumber than Calderon looks ... But if by some divine intervention, the Raptors pull off the steal of the century, that would definitely help my cause in my bet with Arizona's Finest (yeah, that's right little brother, size Medium in Authentic Jerseys and size 13 for the Jordan's, LOL) ... Bosh, Ford and Bryant running the East for years to come ... I can hear the groans, see the eyes rolling and head shaking of a certain hater now, huh Prophet, LOL ...

Music:
Here's the link to Alicia Keys' new single "No One" on YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktUSIJEiOug
My take, she is still one of the, if not the, best singers in the business ... But based on this one song, which I like by the way, it seems as though there's something missing ... I liked Alicia Keys for her precision with hitting notes, this song is not the best example of that ... Her voice is one of a kind, purity in her tone, clarity, power, range, smooth transitions from high to low and vice versa ... I'm not one to judge an album on one song, so I'm real anxious to hear her what else she has to offer in her new album, set to be released November 13 ... On another note, did anyone notice that Alicia has "packed on a few", she's still fine as hell though ... I'll be sure to give my takes on hers and Usher's new albums when they come out ...

All for now ...

Chillin' with the boys in T.O.

I was sayin' to Prophet last night that yesterday's events were blogworthy so here goes ...

Yesterday morning, I went home ... by that I'm referring to B-Town, the old hometown ... of course I had to pay a visit to my old house on Brookfield (B-Town's greatest sports street, Period) ... Next came a return to the old high school, I was there to pick up some paper work ... A lot's changed since my time there, structurally to the building and the "atmosphere" ... I was sayin' yesterday that returning to both places was a surreal feeling, by that I mean it didn't feel like I was ever from there, but at the same time felt like home, that may be hard for people to understand ... While in my high school I ran into an old Brookfield neighbour, who I'll call Miss Baller (she earned that name in my eyes, because aside from Anthro and myself, she was the next best player on that street) ... I should've asked her if she wanted to run some pick-up ball, LOL ... Another person I spoke to was my old music instructor, I was very surprised that he remembered who I was, given how much I've changed appearance wise ... All in all, B-Town will always be home, I'll be back sometime in the next few weeks to get my Sonny's fix ...

Fast forward to dinner ... I met up with Prophet and Verse (aka Mype) first ... If there's anyone that's transformed the most, that award hands down goes to Verse ... Anthro and Garneteye hooked up with us later ... Dinner was cool, jokes as always, throwin' verbal jabs at each other ... We got into a pretty good roundtable discussion about Canadian & U.S. politics, GTA issues (violence, faith based schools), current events, sports ... i can't give a recap because that would be like publishing a book ... too bad I didn't have a tape recorder, I would've had a lot of good quotes and soundbites ... Anthro and Verse definitely need their own blogs, they're two very intelligent and well spoken individuals, with great knowledge and insight ... Another dinner is tentatively scheduled for next month when Chipy comes home ... Korean BBQ, I might need to pack some Immodium, just in case I can't stomach it ...

After we went our separate ways from Verse and Garneteye, Anthro convinced Prophet and myself to stick around for "Capture the Flag" ... And the fun begins, LOL ... For those of you, that've never played, basically the objective is to capture a hidden flag within a geographic location, then return the flag to your designated territory, in the process evading opponents trying to "tag/touch" you, all of this for "fun" no awards/prizes at all ... Participation in this game was beyond belief for me, some people got pretty hardcore ... When we first arrived we witnessed some girl nearly get hit by a car, later on watched some guy run shoulder first into a glass panel ... Finally, to cap it off, a guy who captured the flag get hit by a car while riding on his bike ... All I'll say is, there's a first time for everything and there's a last time for everything, that was definitely my last time being around something like that, LOL ... But as Prophet said, "If your thing is getting touched by high school girls, then this game is for you" ... Now that I think about it, that explains somewhat why Anthro wanted to play, LMFAO ... The night ended with Anthro getting Prophet and myself to serve as his "lookout" ... no details right now, but that will definitely be a chapter that makes the cut for my upcoming novel The Chronicles of Antrho ... Ahhhh Good Times!

Raptors alternate jerseys

-OK, for any of you Raptor fans, I just recieved word from a VERY credible source (who begged not to be revealed) that the Raptors will be getting alternative jerseys ... They are tentatively set for release for next season, however if not next, guaranteed for the season after ... As far as the design goes, it is the exact layout of the current jerseys, however it will be a black jersey, red stripes on the sides and white chevrons within the stripes ... The lettering and numbering will be white, with possibly red lining ...

Random Shots

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving ...

-Boy does it suck being back in the real world ... don't get me wrong, I love Toronto, but I just hate gettin' back to the grind ... I miss New York ... Next summer's agenda: 1. My annual NYC trip, 2. A return trip to Phoenix/Las Vegas/Los Angeles, 3. Maybe Florida ... In the meantime, I gotta check in with the boys on a roadtrip for this fall ...

-I'm left with a bittersweet feeling after last night's elections ... I voted early last week for the Liberals ... I'm glad they remained in power, as I would never vote Conservative ... However, Ted Chudleigh remained M.P.P. of the Halton Region, he won by less than 1,000 votes ... Hopefully by the next election, enough newcomers will have moved out to our region and we can oust the Conservatives ... But, by that time, I'll probably be living elsewhere, ahhh well ...

-Another high school shooting, this time in Ohio ... Is this becoming the norm? ... It was probably over something stupid ... I'm just wondering, how is it so easy for one person to shoot someone else? ... Kids these days, are being raised the wrong way ...

-I was thinking the other day, maybe Canada should bring back the $1 and $2 bills ... I hate carrying all these coins around ... yeah, leave it to me, to have nothing better to think about ...

-I'm debating whether I should buy NBA Live or NBA 2K8 for Playstation 2 ... I won't have much time to play either, but I have to have the latest basketball game at home, for the times people come over (especially my little cousins, who I enjoy schoolin' on the regular, LOL) ... People have plenty of complaints about Live but I don't seem to mind it, I've got the last 3 or 4 versions at home ... These two are supposedly the last basketball games of either franchise to be released on Playstation 2, as of next year will only be released on Playstation 3 ...

-I'm not liking this continued warm weather in October, but I'm not saying that I like the winter either ... But right now, it's cold in the mornings, meaning when I leave the house, I'm usually sportin' a sweater or jacket, but by the middle of the day it's blistering hot ... whatever ...

-On that note, does anyone else find it difficult to get motivated to hit the gym and workout after summer is over? ... I'm definitely in one of those "slump" periods right now ... I definitely need a workout partner, to keep me motivated ... maybe, I'll hit up Anthro's home gym sometime soon ...

-Another TJ Ford article talkin' about possibly becoming an NBA All-Star this year ...
http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=5610
I'm pulling for you TJ ...

-On tap for this weekend ... A dinner with the boys, Black Prophet, Anthro and Mype ... A shoutout to my boy Octal (who probably hasn't even read the blog yet), where you at bro? ...

2nd Report from NYC

Just got back from Manhattan, boy are my legs tired after a full day of walkin' ...

Before I get to today's events, I forgot to mention Manny Pacquiao's new T-Shirt that he wore during yesterday's fight ... That new shirt is SICK!!! ... If he comes out with a full clothing line, I'll be sportin' that stuff on the regular ...

I got an early start to Manhattan this morning, the subways are probably my least favourite thing about New York ... Man, do they smell ... Toronto is definitely a lot cleaner ...

First stop was the World Trade Center, to take a look of course ... But my main reason for going was this American food restaurant called Charly's ... I forgot to mention that place before, but this is probably New York's best place to eat ... They serve Cheesesteaks, Wings, Burgers and Mexican Food ... What more could a guy ask for ... I also have to show some love to Roy Rogers, that place has the best fried chicken, period ... After Nathan's, Roy Rogers and Charly's, I've only managed to put on 1 pound ... Probably all the walking I've done off-set my intake ...

I went to the Adidas Performance and Adidas Originals stores ... I struck up conversations with store workers at random ... At the Performance store, I was talking with this guy about the difference in prices of NBA jerseys between the States and Canada ... Swingmans $75 compared to $125 ... Authentics $170 to $225 ... The guy was like "Word, I don't think I'd wanna live there" ... LOL ... Then at the Originals store, I was looking specifically for the Philippines Adidas Tracksuit Jacket ... If you're Filipino, you know which one I'm talking about ... This store worker, a white guy all tattooed up, kinda looked like a guy from a rock band, he told me "man, when those got released in August, word got out and all the Pinoys descended upon this place" ... whoa, "Pinoy"?, that caught me way off guard ...

After much walking, I finally made it ... to White Castle ... I was definitely was in Harold and Kumar mode, because I was tired and starved ... "That was the best meal of my life" ...

At the NBA store, I was paying for some stuff and the cashier asked me for my zipcode,
Me - "I'm not from here"
Cashier - "Where are you from?"
Me - "Toronto"
Cashier - "Oh, so then you're from Canadia?"
LMFAO, that's right, Can-AY-DEE-UH ...

As far as other shopping I did, I picked up some stuff from Lacoste (of course), but that's pretty much it ... the funds were pretty much depleted after yesterday at Woodbury and Jersey Gardens ...

So all in all, New York was great, as always ... I'll be back next year, as this is an annual trip ... I love New York, it made be totally forget about my hectic schedule back home ...

Bloggin' from NYC

What's up everyone, it's your boy J-Smooth bloggin' from Brooklyn, NY, the "hood" baby ...

-I drove pretty much the entire way here, so I was a little winded yesterday ...

-I hit Woodbury Outlet Malls and Jersey Gardens (in New Jersey) yesterday ... Can you say bargains ... I had a running joke with my aunt, when she saw something that she thought was pricey, I'd say "It's only in American Dollars", LOL ... As far as how much I've spent already, let's just say that I exceeded my budget already and I still have a full day in Manhattan to go ...

-We accidentally took the wrong exit on the way to Jersey Gardens and wound up just outside Newark ... BUT, to my surprise we passed by a White Castle, however we didn't want to stop because of the neighbourhood we were in ... Now I know what Harold and Kumar felt like ... White Castle is definitely on the ajenda today ...

-Let me just say that as far as the "talent" goes in the NYC area, Toronto's "talent" doesn't even come close ... 1 out of every 2 women I passed in the malls yesterday was Latina ... What more could a man ask for ...

-Now my take on the Pacquiao-Barrera fight ... I can't say that I was pleased with the result, because there wasn't a knockout ... Pacquiao was respecting Barrera's power all night, he couldn't land consistent combinations because of Barrera's constant clenching and running ... Barrera was a punk with that sucker punch in the 11th Round ... Pacquiao fought a very disciplined fight, something which was unheard of 2 years ago ... Barrera is definitely done, he was fighting not to get hurt last night ... As far as what's next for Pacquiao, I say "Bring on Marquez" ...

I may get the chance to blog later on today, so stay tuned ...

Stuff

-All is good in Canada right now, Dollar high, Gas Prices (by today's standards) low ...

-Great sports weekend coming up ... Manny Pacquiao is going to knock out Marco Antonio Barrera this Saturday, I guarantee it ... The Raptors have two games, Saturday versus the new-look Boston Celtics and Sunday against some Italian team ... Word out of an intersquad scrimmage game says that Joey Graham posterized Chris Bosh ... Graham's already predicted this season to be his breakout year ... but I'm not taking him too seriously, he said the exact same thing last year ... this season is Joey's last chance in my opinion ...

-Back to Pacquiao ... Filipinos always seem to be arguing about something, whether it be politics or just plain stupidness ... It seems to me the one thing that unites Filipinos all over the world is Pacquiao ...

-What am I reading these days? ... two books, Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray and Mary Barton by Mary Barton ... Two of the most boring books that I've read in my life, but these are apparently classics ... Nothing mind blowing, slow pacing to both books, no villains to capture the readers attention, no shocking plotlines ... Why am I reading them? no choice ...

-I voted Liberal yesterday and voted for the election system to remain status quo ...

-Eva Mendes denied rumors that she is pregnant ... ***sigh*** ... That would've wrecked my dream ... LOL ...

-I leave late on Friday night for New York City and New Jersey ... I fully expect to put on a couple of pounds ... I'm still waiting to find out if there is somewhere to watch the Pacquiao fight ... I'll probably be bloggin' from Brooklyn ...

Notes

I felt like blogging today, but not much to say ... well, here goes ...

-I'm still getting over the Taylor-Pavlik fight ... I'll say it again, Instant Classic ... A great warmup to this weekend's Pacquiao-Barrera fight ...

-Canadian Dollar = $1.0087 U.S. ...

-NYC-Jersey, in 4 days, here I come ... I'm going to miss Thanksgiving Dinner (one of my favourite times of the year next to Christmas and my Birthday), I always love spending time with Fam ...

-T.J. Ford has stated one of his personal goals for the upcoming NBA season is to make the All-Star team ... He's got his work cut out for him, being in a Point Guard deep conference, which includes: Jason Kidd, Gilbert Arenas and Chauncey Billups ... But if he can do it, great ... anything that gets Calderon benched or turns him into trade bait ...

-So another Toronto Blue Jays season has come and gone, and again no post-season ... what does that make it now? 14 years of playoff futility ... Ricciardi took over in 2001 and promised a "5-year plan", we're at the end of his sixth year and we haven't seen any significant Toronto baseball in September over the course of his tenure ... I just keep thinking, man was Toronto spoiled with the Pat Gillick regime back in the Championship years ...

-So busy now-a-days, just so many things to take care of ... Motivation now is to make it to the Christmas Holidays ...
