Happy New Year to all ... I don't make many promises, thus no New Year's resolutions ... Hopefully I have more reasons to blog in 2008 ... Again, Happy New Year and be safe on the roads for all of you that'll be out tonight ...

Nothin' but sports; A Brookfield night
Last night I watched one sport that I love, found out some news about the other sport I love, watched a sport that I casually watch, and watched a sport I never watch ...
-I have to say that the Raptors have become really boring to watch lately ... They’re strictly a jumpshooting team, with no exciting players ... At this time I have to renounce my status as a Raptor fan and declare myself strictly a TJ Ford fan ... Chris Bosh is not a franchise player and he isn’t a leader ... He’d be a great secondary player to go alongside a superstar ... Now which superstar can the Raps coerce into coming here ... here’s to praying that Kobe Bryant gives T-Dot full consideration when his deal expires in a couple of years ... But in the mean time, get well soon TJ ... very soon ... PLEASE!
-A prospect in boxing that I’ve been following for the past couple of years is scheduled to fight next Friday ... That would be Anthony Peterson, who I predict will one day become Lightweight Champion of the world, if not this year, then next ... He’s got all the tools, athletic, good hand speed, power, effective as a boxer or puncher ... Now I looked at the upcoming TV schedules ... here in Canada, boxing is only broadcast on TSN ... DAMMIT ... on that night they’re covering junior hockey ... I shouldn’t be surprised as this is TSN, hockey capital of TV, they might as well change their name to THN ... I guess I have to find another way to watch the fight, in this g*d-forsaken hick, err, I mean, hockey town ...
-I went over to Anthro’s place to hang out, caught the end of the New England Patriots – New York Giants game and the UFC PPV ... It was pretty much a Brookfield reunion of sorts, minus Beef, it was Anthro, his older bro Doc, ‘Scrat, Chubbs, Mag and myself along with some of their friends ... before the PPV, Anthro finally showed me the “much anticipated” pix of his jubb from Vancouver ... my reaction, “damn”, “not bad, not too bad at all”, “I’m proud of you”, LOL ...
-I’m not a huge football fan, like I was in the early 90’s during the glory days of the Buffalo Bills ... Thurman Thomas, Bruce Smith, Cornelius Bennett, Darryl Talley, Andre Reed and of course, Jim Kelly, “The K-Gun”, LOL ... yeah those were the glory days ... I don’t care that they lost 4 straight Super Bowls, they were great ... Anyways back to yesterday’s Pats-Giants game ... While I don’t follow football as religiously as I did, I still know who all the major players are ... probably the two players I hate the most are Tom Brady and Randy Moss ... the team that I hate the most is New England ... BUT, I have to give credit where it’s due ... Brady’s and Moss’ respective TD pass and TD catch records, plus New England’s perfect 16-0 regular season record, there’s not much to hate on, I have no choice but to respect that ... people say that unless they win their last three games (playoffs), then it’s all meaningless, but those three records will probably take a while to be erased ...
-On to UFC ... while I have been adamant about boxing’s superiority to MMA, I was giving it a chance last night ... On the card Georges St. Pierre versus Matt Hughes and Chuck Liddell versus Wanderlei Silva ... Anthro says these are the biggest names in the sport and these were arguably the two biggest matchups in UFC history, “bigger than Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie” ... I figured, if I wasn’t sold after this card, I’d never be sold on MMA ... During the main event, GSP-Hughes, Anthro was going nuts, but I just didn’t share in the excitement ... everyone went crazy over the GSP takedown in the second round, which to me was nothing more than a trip ... then there was the armbar submission finish at the end of the second, Hughes had to verbally tap out ... Again, the takedown and armbar, didn’t look like anything special to me, if I wanted to see moves like that, I’d just tune into WWE, at least they make them look colourful ... I was actually more entertained with the Liddell-Silva fight, it was more like a boxing match, but minus the hooks and uppercuts, it consisted mostly of periodical jabs, straights and crosses ... however, if a boxing match went like that, the fans would be booing in a heartbeat ... One thing that annoyed me the most was the play-by-play commentary and Joe Rogan ... Man, if I had a penny for every time I heard, “this is the most anticpated match”, “a match 6 years in the making” ... How much do you have to sell a fight, during the actual fight? ... I’m thinking, “who are you guys trying to convince”? ... While watching the PPV, Anthro and myself were throwing verbal jabs at each other over the whole Boxing versus MMA thing ... I was saying stuff like, “If I wanted to see two guys trying to mount each other, I’d just rent Brokeback Mountain” and I was commenting on how g*y the kicking was ... Anthro was also complaining about the shaky camera guys, my response “what?, UFC doesn’t have enough money to pay for decent camera guys? They probably just hired some bum off the streets of Las Vegas” ... Oh, you can't forget the star sightings, while Boxing can bring out Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods just to name two, MMA can only muster up David Spade and Mandy Moore ...
-I'd say that UFC made a horrible business decision to put two main event calibre fights on the same card ... I mean these are supposedly four of the biggest names in their sport, in two of the biggest matchups and they still won’t draw close to half of the $$$ Mayweather versus DeLaHoya or Hatton did ... For fight sports, a monthly PPV should suffice, but instead of having two PPV’s (meaning double the profits) UFC killed that by putting two in one ... Now as a boxing fan, would I like to see a card with: Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Kelly Pavlik, Jermain Taylor, Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley and yes even Floyd Mayweather on the same card? Oh hell yeah ... But I would also like to see at least one big fight every month ... A main event boxer fights two, maybe three, times a year ... If you put all the big names on one card, you’d have no big fights within a four to five month period ... I’ve been to the local Music/Video Stores and they have tons of MMA DVD’s but a very limited selection of boxing DVD’s, after realizing the huge difference in revenues, I finally understand why ... My conclusion, I wasn’t sold on MMA after this PPV, thus I never will be ... MMA is still nothing more to me than human c*ck-fighting ... But no worries, MMA doesn’t even come close to my hate for soccer ...
-To conclude this sports themed night was Anthro versus J-Smooth in billiards ... Brookfield’s best all-round athlete versus Brookfield's toughest competitor ... I’ve faced him many times before on Brookfield, whether it be basketball, baseball and now that we’re “older” pool ... It’s been a pretty great rivalry looking back on it ... as for the result, no comment ... To quote Dr. Claw, “I’ll get you next time Anthro ... next time” ...

Random Shots
-words to describe my feelings on the Benazir Bhutto assassination ... I only have one, tragic ... it’s unfortunate news, especially around this time of year ... not that we needed any confirmation, but the war on terror continues ... you can’t stop people that are hell bent on killing others ... perception is a tough thing to change and over on the other side of the world, there are a number of people that just don’t like America and are willing to take their hate to the extreme ... I’d like to say that for the new year, “I wish for world peace”, but it doesn’t seem to be an option for all parties concerned ...
-how convenient ... oil prices have risen as a result of the assassination ... these oil companies are run by complete morons, they use every excuse in the book to increase their profits ...
-I’ve been reading that ice levels in the Arctic have drastically decreased ... ahhh, global warming talk again ... supposedly the global landscape will be drastically changed with rising water levels as a result of the melting ice ... cities like Vancouver will end up being submerged ... how do I feel about that? ... nothing, I’ll be dead and buried by the time that’s expected to happen ...
-so there’s an asteroid that has a slight chance of impacting Mars ... hey, as long as it stays away from us ...
-I guess trailer trash is in the blood ... the younger Spears is pregnant at 16 and speculation is that it is with an older exec of her show ... Wow, what great role models kids have nowadays ... According to some papers I’ve read, that show is one of the top amongst 9-14 year olds, or “tweens” ... When I was around that age, they weren’t even allowed to say “a$$” on TV ... I wonder what kind of role models they’ll have on television when I have kids someday ...

A Christmas Story
Christmas arrived, and just as quickly, Christmas left ... I just think, one year ago today I was lined up at an airport check-in ... I can’t believe it’s already been a year ... But a recap of yesterday:
-I got up early, to open presents ... My sis and myself let our parents open theirs first ... We got my father a Sony CD-Clock-Radio to go along with The Beatles CD collection ... My mother, we got a Sony Walkman ... For my sis, I got her a gift certificate for The Eaton Centre, but me being me, I wrapped it inside a Mr. Swifer Cloth box, packed with shredded computer paper ... Yeah, I’m just a regular prankster ... I opened my gift from my sis, it was Sony headphones (huge ones, the ones you see ballers wear on the way to games), my dad was like “those are huge ... but it’s OK, you’ve got a big head anyways”, LOL ... my dad’s a comedian, LOL ...
-What was funny about opening presents was that my mother took a sleeping pill at 2AM that morning ... lets just say she was knocked out ... It’s like she had narcolepsy ... Picture an animal that had been tranquilized, LOL ... I was tellin’ my sis’ boyfriend later that I’d like to try one of those pills, if I had nothing to do the following day ... It would be nice to sleep, uninterrupted through the night ... I wouldn’t mind sleeping from 6PM to 11AM the next morning ...
-After Christmas Mass, I did just like I said I was going to do ... Vegetated in front of the TV, eating fried chicken and chips, watching my new George Lopez Show DVD’s, oh yeah, and also downing Heinekens at the same time, ahhhhhh heaven ... And this was all before 12pm ... LOL, drinking before noon, can you say alcoholic? ...
-As planned, we went over to my uncle’s house for Christmas ... Everyone was all dressed up ... My idea ... I was dressed in a suit, LOL, I had to be on point ... There were a few no-shows, but all of the people that I actually talk to in my Fam were there (minus my cousin O) ... Someone asked me if the no-shows bothered me ... My response, “I don’t even like a lot of the people that didn’t show ... That’s not on me, it’s on them ... All I know is that I don’t sell out Fam on Christmas” ... Really the only people that I felt were missing were Zona’s family ...
-I started out playing NBA ’08 on PS3 with my young cousins ... I used the Raptors, of course, but first thing I did was trade Andrea Bargnani for my boy Charlie Villanueva ... My lineup: 5-Chris Bosh, 4-Charlie Villanueva, 3-Jason Kapono, 2-Carlos Delfino and of course 1-TJ Ford ... The game was close up to the half-time, but TJ fouled out ... My uncle was heckling me, “put in Calderon” ... oh heeeeeell no! ... So I subbed in Dixon ... Without Ford, my cousin took the lead in the third ... Unfortunately we didn’t finish the game, because somehow it “accidentally” got turned off ...
-Great news in the Fam, my cousin Tatsu and her boyfriend of 4 (or is it 5?) years are engaged for September of ’09 ... I’m very happy for her ... I asked her boyfriend, how much the ring set him back ... He’s like, “considering my yearly income at (retail Store) ... It’s about a quarter of my annual ... but you know how (Tatsu) is” ... Me bein’ my comedic self, I asked “are you sure about this? ... what’s the return policy on the ring?”, LOL ... His response “45 days” ... I walked over to Tatsu to look at the rock, I said, “Cubic Zirconia”, LOL, it got a laugh from the Fam ...
-Dinner Time ... great food, Turkey (w/ stuffing), Lasagna, Fried Chicken, Salads, some other food I don’t eat, and Cheese Cake ... Let's just say my eating and drinking from last night, did absolutely nothing for my waistline, LOL ...
-After dinner, we got a chance to make some phone calls to Fam that wasn't present ... We called Phoenix ... I was able to speak to my fave cousin Zona, I asked him “why were you snitchin’ on your sis, on your blog?” ... LOL, it’s all good ... I asked to speak to his sis, the first thing I said to her was “I’m hearing rumors, confirm or deny”, LOL ... No response, LOL, that’s pretty much a confirmation to me ... I wish they both could’ve been there yesterday, can’t wait to see them both this summer ... One thing we definitely got to do is go to Canada’s Wonderland, it’s literally in my uncle's backyard, if you step out of his house, you can see the park, anyways we have to ride the new roller coaster at the park, The Behemoth ... Driving to my uncle’s place last night, I got a good look at it ... That thing is huge!, It’s taller than Wonder Mountain ... My younger cousin Neil said "maybe we should sleep overnight at Vaughn Mills, so we can be first in line for the Behemoth" ... LOL, it got a good laugh from the entire Fam ...
-The usual D-Mac discussions about basketball and boxing ... topics this year, TJ's possible retirement, which would really jeopardize my chances of winning the bet with Zona ... also Floyd Mayweather's interest in MMA ... I'm thinking, why add any kind of legitimacy to MMA? ... Their biggest star is probably GSP, but he draws no where even close to $$$ numbers like Mayweather-DeLaHoya or Mayweather Hatton ... My hunch is that Floyd doesn't do it ...
-My sis’ boyfriend asked me if I’m feelin’ any pressure to get married (my sis should be married within the next 2 years, my cousin Tatsu engaged, I’m expecting my cousin Juddimac to be married in the next 3-4 years) ... My response to him, “OH HEEEEEELL NO!” ... My response to everyone as to why I don’t have a girl “getting a girl is not hard to me, it’s about finding one that won’t p!ss me off ... plus I don’t have any money for a girl right now, these Canadian-born girls cost money nowadays ... Finally, I just don’t have any time or patience for the headaches right now, maybe sometime in the summer”
-With three weddings on the horizon, it gives me something to look forward to, three reasons to drink and party ...
-Back to last night, we spent part of it watching ball highlights on NBA TV ... My young cousin Mike asked me “What do you think was the best dunk of all time?” ... I asked “In a game or dunk contest?” ... Mike, “In a game” ... My uncle piped in and said “easily John Starks over Jordan and Horace Grant” ... Oh Hell No! ... My response, “Michael Jordan, shaking two defenders, driving baseline and the facial on Patrick Ewing” ... His Airness, now that’s greatness ...
-The night concluded with Fam picture taking ... Some of the pics are already up on Facebook, LOL ...
-It was a great night, just sittin’ around the table tellin’ jokes, The D-Mac ... they’re all good people ... well most of them anyway, LOL ...
I hope everyone’s Christmas was well spent

Christmas ... Almost
J-Smooth’s back to give his loyal readers something to read, as I’ve been lazy the past couple days ... Since it is Christmas (well a couple days to), I’ll reflect on Christmas past and let you all in on plans for Christmas present ...
The most memorable Christmas presents (that I received):
-I think it was the Christmas of sixth grade ... I didn’t think I was getting any presents that year, but my mom hid them ... I got both exact things that I wanted that year, a Toronto Blue Jays baseball cap and Batman returns on VHS ... Probably the most memorable because I was totally surprised and got the only two things on my wish list ...
-Third grade, I really wanted the original Nintendo system that year ... but the morning of Christmas Eve, my mother told me, “I’m not sure Santa can get you your Nintendo, there was a snow storm in the North Pole” ... Stupid me didn’t believe her ... The milk and cookies were put out by the chimney before we went to Christmas Mass ... When we got home, the cookies were gone but the milk was still there ... My uncle said, “Oh ... Santa didn’t want milk, so I gave him a beer”, LMFAO ... I opened a card, “from Santa” , it read something to the effect of “sorry, couldn’t get the Nintendo, a snow storm in the North Pole” ... But he did leave $100 in the card, but my mom “conveniently” said, OK, give me the money and I’ll save it for you, so we can buy your Nintendo some other time ... I look back on that now and I think, damn, she cheated me out of a gift from Santa that year , LOL ... But I did get the next best thing, my parents got me the three action figures missing in my DC Comics figure collection ...
-First grade, my first Christmas in my “new” house in Scarborough ... I got a ton of gifts that year ... A He-Man “Castle of Grey Skull” ... Now that gift was sick, being an 80's kid and all ... I also got a stuffed dog, wrestling figures and “My Buddy” ...
The most memorable Christmas’:
-Probably last Christmas, the D-Mac Family Reunion in the Philippines ... Sure it wasn’t perfect, because I got severely dehydrated, but everyone was there and it was fun ... Sure hope we can do it again ...
-Eleventh Grade, Christmas in Vancouver ... Spending it with my immediate family and Arizona’s Finest’s family ... Simply a beautiful city ...
-Seventh Grade, in California ... It was actually a two-week trip that included stops to: Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Las Vegas (NV) ... I haven't been back since (except to Vegas), hopefully headed back there this coming summer ...
What’s goin’ on this year?
Well, Christmas Eve is going to be spent at home ... Christmas Day will probably look like this: Christmas Mass, Presents, then myself vegetating, eating fried chicken, chips and drinking beer, while enjoying my Christmas presents that I got myself (DVD’s) ... Then for dinner, it’s off to Woodbridge at my uncle’s, to give my cousins a$$ whoopings in NBA ’08 for PS3 ...
I’ll probably get another blog in before Christmas, if I’m not too lazy ...

J-Smooth on the State of the Raptors
At the quarter mark of the NBA season, J-Smooth has to give his two cents on the state of the Toronto Raptors ... 1st you have to start at the top ...
Chris Bosh: I’d have to say that I’m pretty disappointed with him this year ... Sure he gets his points, but I’m not liking how he settles for the jumper ... He really needs to mix it up a bit more, because his game is getting so predictable ... When he gets the ball in the post, he is so indecisive with the ball, he holds it for like 5 seconds, giving the defense time to adjust and decide whether to double team ... When he gets the ball in the post, he needs to make his move right away ... If the double comes, he needs to swing the ball a lot quicker ... I liked the Bosh of old, that would take the ball to the hoop with more regularity, I guess he’s just trying to prolong his career ... Another thing that I’m disappointed with is his rebounding, for a guy with his talent, he should be averaging at least 12 boards a game ...
TJ Ford: By far, he was the Raptors’ best player prior to his injuries ... At times he gets a little careless with the ball and takes questionable shots, but he’s the only guy on the team, apart from Bosh, that can create his own shot ... His jumper is the best it’s looked since he started his career ... With him out right now, you can really see how much the Raptors miss his presence, because he is the only guy that seems to step up in clutch situations ... unlike ... we’ll get to that later ...
The Role Players: Jamario Moon, has been a pleasant surprise, but his game has really tailed off in the past couple of weeks ... He seems a bit tentative taking the ball to the hoop ... But he’s the only athletic, rebounding, defensive player that the team has, so I can live with his struggles on offense ... Jason Kapono, is doing exactly what the Raptors expected him to do when they gave him the contract, hitting shots ... Kris Humphries, he’s far from the most talented player, but I can appreciate his effort on the glass ... Rasho Nesterovic, another effort guy ... Carlos Delfino, he has a pretty well rounded game ... Anthony Parker, he’s an O.K. role player, but definitely not the superstar that the Raptors’ commentators make him out to be ...
Andrea Bargnani: I had a few conversations with friends about this guy over the past few months ... While I think he’s a nice role player, I don’t think he’ll ever be “The next Nowitzki” or even a future NBA All-Star for that matter ... I don't even think he'll be better than Charlie Villanueva (It's too bad the Raps couldn't find another way to acquire TJ and at the same time keep Charlie V) ... Yeah that's right Chipy, I said it, Prophet and myself aren't crazy ... I’ve come to the conclusion that Bargnani’s nothing more than a 7-foot jump shooter ... He doesn’t defend or rebound and those are two parts of your game that come naturally, not learned ... I’ve mentioned before that I think the Raptors were screwed when David Stern changed the draft rules, disallowing high school students from entering the league, costing us Greg Oden or Kevin Durant ... But even without those two, the Raptors still had a few good options going into the 2006 Draft ... The three that stand out are: LaMarcus Aldridge, Brandon Roy and Rudy Gay ... First, Aldridge would give the Raptors exactly what they’re missing right now, an interior presence that can score, rebound and defend, and would’ve been justifiable if taken number one ... Brandon Roy, I said at the time couldn’t of been justified to be picked first overall, but he eventually won Rookie of the Year, so that would’ve justified it plenty ... I think right now he would be the best fit for the Raptors, an unselfish player, he and Bosh would’ve been 1 and 1A as far as scoring options go ... I tell you what, if he was on the Raptors right now, I would be on the phone with my cousin Arizona’s Finest on a constant basis, telling him to save his money to cover our bet ... Lastly, Rudy Gay, he’s always been athletically gifted, but he’s showing signs of becoming a consistent scorer in the league, if he was on the team it would definitely add more excitement ... I will have to agree with my boy Prophet that Andrea Bargnani is probably one of the worst first picks in NBA history ... For two reasons, 1) he’s a 7-foot jump shooter, doesn’t defend and rebound, 2) we passed up 3 players that are better than him in Aldridge, Roy and Gay ...
Calderon: in yesterday’s game against Portland put up good numbers, but when the game was on the line, he choked, just like in Game 6 of last year’s playoffs against New Jersey ... Chuck Swirsky pointed out that Calderon hadn’t turned the ball over in “72 consecutive minutes” ... But with the Raps down 3, with just over 30 seconds remaining, he decides to dribble into traffic, gets stripped, thus turns the ball over ... But what drove me nuts was how Leo Rautins was so quick to make excuses for Calderon, “Oh Chuck, you shouldn’t have said that, you jinxed him” ... Ughhhh, blaming a commentator for Jose’s bone-headed play of dribbling into three guys ... Leo Rautins represents each and every one of the Raptors’ idiotic fans ... If TJ had done the same thing, message boards would’ve read “Bench TJ”, “Trade TJ” ... Leo sucked as a player and he sucks as an analyst ... TJ’s advantages over Jose: 1) he’s quicker, thus can attract the opposing defense a lot more, thus creating more open looks for teammates, 2) his quickness makes him a better defender, and allows him to keep his man in front of him, 3) he has more composure in clutch situations ...
I’m not a fan of European players, actually European athletes as a whole ... Euro ball players for the most part are soft and don’t play defense ... For those of you that strongly disagree, answer this, “name one European player that doesn’t play soft and actually plays defense?” ... Can’t say Delfino, Andres Nocioni or Anderson Varejao, (all of whom I like what they bring to the table) they’re South American ...
People would probably criticize me for favouring Bosh and Ford ... Hey, I like these guys as players, not to mention they’re classy off the court, but if I was G.M. of the Raptors and someone offered me Dwight Howard and Chris Paul for Bosh and Ford, I’d be like “Chris, TJ, you guys are nice players and great guys, but hey, it’s a business and it’s about winning championships” ...
At the season’s quarter mark, the Raptors seem pretty mediocre, they don’t have any big wins over the elite teams ... If I was to predict their chances in the playoffs this year, I’d say the furthest is probably the second round ...

A Fast Food Story
Went to this fast food place today ... I went to the front counter, the person at cash was the manager, I could tell by the uniform ... Then I'm waiting for the customary "Can I help you?" or "What can I get for you?" ... doesn't come ... That person gets full marks for customer service, she was a manager for God sakes ... So I placed my order anyways ... I'll describe the next part using dialogue ...
Manager: "That'll be $5.69"
(so I give her $10.69, but the manager hands the coins back)
Manager: "It's O.K."
J-Smooth: "no ... I'm giving you the 69 cents so I can get back $5"
(she stands there with a confused look on her face)
J-Smooth: (so I try to explain to her) "The total is $5.69, I'm giving you $10.69, so subtract $5.69 from that, and I get $5 back"
(she's still looking confused)
J-Smooth: "Just punch it in"
(then she calls another person with the same type uniform, I'm assuming another manager, so he enters in the $10.69 into the register)
Oh, wait, it doesn't end there ... When another regular employee is preparing my burger, the same "confused" manager, reams out this worker ...
Manager: (pointing to the bottled condiments)"I told you before, only the mayonnaise bottle is supposed to be upside down"
(worker says nothing)
Manager: "You never listen properly"
First I think, how unprofessional to call out your own staff in front of a customer, then I'm thinking "You dumba$$! ... you don’t even know how to do simple math and you’re trying to make this person feel like she’s stupid” ... What made me feel even worse was that the worker was an ethnic minority ... It’s not like she could’ve stood up for herself, otherwise she’d probably lose her job ... just goes to show, small time people always trying to inflict whatever power they feel they have ...

Current State of Mind: Boredom
One week to go 'til Christmas and I'm bored ... Shopping is complete (that includes my gifts to myself) ... Just chillin' ... But definitely looking forward to the holiday festivities with fam next week ... I went out this morning to the malls, just to get out ... As I was walkin' around, I was contemplating things, that's just what I am, a thinker ... But this time, it wasn't so much about the past, as I tend to do ... Moreso about the future ... I was thinkin' about where I'll be same time next year, instinct tells me that life will be a lot different come this time in '08 ... My father tells me that my uncle/godfather from the Philippines is coming down to the T-Dot this summer, he's planning to visit a few spots in North America, he also told my father that he plans to take me along with him some place this coming summer ... sure gives me a lot to look forward to and should give me enough focus and motivation to work hard over the next few months ... Over the past seven months, I've been given a second chance at my youth, it's been a bit of a balancing act between tryin' to enjoy things and meeting personal goals ... I hate soundin' cliche, but I can definitely now see the light at the end of the tunnel ... Now the infamous question, "Do you wish you could turn back time, go back to days when things were simple?" ... No ... My explanation for that, all I have to do is reply, "What does the past have, that I don't have today?" ... I still have the same family, same friends, my relationships with all those people are probably stronger now than they ever were ... If I wanna watch TV Shows from "back in the day", all I have to do is stop by the local Best Buy (with the exception of The Wonder Years) they have pretty much every old school show on DVD, (not that I would ever consider buying it but) that includes old school Sesame Street episodes (or maybe I would, LOL) ... If I wanna act like a kid and do stuff like play outside, that's what my little cousins, nieces and nephews are for ... If there are places I want to go, now I have the financial and transportation means for them ... Life is only as difficult as you let it or make it out to be ... People say life's a game, but that sounds kind of restrictive to me, because it implies that you're bound by only one set of rules ... I say, life's more like an endless series of games and you just choose which one you want to play ... It's all a matter of finding the game that you're best at ... But those who are happiest, play their own game, by their own rules ... After all, "happiness is ... splashy whales ... happiness is ... waving tales ... it's sailing around, and upside down ... " LMFAO ... Man, oh man, I must be bored ... psycho talk! LOL ...

Stranded
I've said it before, I'll say it again, Global Warming my A** ... Phase 1 of shovelling was completed in just under 2 hours ... But looking outside right now, mother nature put it all right back, and then some ... It's impossible to get out of our street right now, they haven't been plowed ... What makes this worse is that a fam function that was to take place today, has been cancelled ... Another thing, my father is on his way back from the motherland today, his connecting flight from Detroit which was supposed to arrive at about 3pm today, has been cancelled and re-scheduled to arrive at 10pm ... I can see my dad now, and how p*ssed he must be, he just got off a direct flight from Manila to Detroit, and now he has to kill 7 hours in an airport, I sure hope he has some money ... I've read some articles online saying that, as far as this winter goes, the worst is yet to come ... f*ck this and f*ck mother nature!

J-Smooth returns; Random Shots
Man ... I've don't remember bein' this drained physically and mentally in the past 8 years ... but at least now I have a few weeks to unwind and re-charge ... Things have been goin' on in the outside World, while I've been on hiatus ...
-My dream is wrecked ... Jessica Alba is pregnant ... I guess she couldn't wait for me any longer ... LOL
-Glad to hear TJ Ford is not as seriously injured as first thought ... but in the meantime, we have to endure more games with Calderon at the point ... ughhhh ... sure he had like 16 assists last night, but he needed 40+ minutes to do it, couple that with my boy Jason Kapono goin' off for a career high 29 points, hitting every almost every shot he put up, of course Jose will have more assists ... TJ's career high in assists is 18 (doin' it twice), in both those games played about 28 minutes and in one of them scored 26 points ... TJ's a threat for 30+ points and 15+ assists in -30 minutes a night ... the only other PG's that are capable of that in the league are Nash and J-Kidd, and those guys are future hall of famers, so you know where I'm going with this ... As far as young PG's, Chris Paul and Deron Williams are the only PG's that are further along than TJ, that's because they have a far superior jump shot, but TJ is closing the gap on that quickly as he's greatly improved on his jumper this year ... But the one good thing that can come out of Jose playing well is that he'll price himself out for free agency this summer ... I'm sure there are teams that will be willing to pay him 8.5M+, which is more than TJ's getting, the Raps will be forced to let Jose go, because you don't pay your backup more than your starter ...
-Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to fight 3 times this year ... the bout versus Juan Manuel Marquez is already booked for March 15 ... should David Daiz win his next bout, Pacquiao should be moving up to lightweight to challenge him for the WBC lightweight title in July ... Now, there are talks to set up Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton for the fall ... now that would be HUGE, as both men have great followings in their native countries ... they'd probably meet at 140lbs. and it would probably take place on neutral ground in Las Vegas ... I can only imagine the profits from that fight ... Another reason why boxing is better than MMA, for the superstars and diversity ... MMA appeals more to the young caucasian male, while boxing is a more worldwide sport ...
-A winter storm is supposedly headed this way ... please don't ...
-Nas' and Busta Rhymes' new albums, were both originally scheduled to come out for December, but both have been pushed back for 2008 releases ... can always count on them for some tracks ...
-I've been watching George Lopez for the past few years, that is probably the most under-rated show on television ... Comedy wise, it's far superior to shows like Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens ... I'll take it a step further to say that it's a better show than crap like Friends and Seinfeld ... George Lopez' humour is so different that I can't even repeat the jokes, you just have to watch ... Plus it helps that the actresses that play the mother, daughter and niece on the show are f*ckin' HOT ... I probably also like this show, because of how much I embrace the Latino culture, it's the only Latino show on TV ... What p*sses me off is how ABC axed the show, now it's airing on Nick at Nite and The CW, nothing wrong with that, but just goes to show how "vanilla" the prime time schedules are for the major TV networks ...
-Another show that I'm really into is The Amazing Race ... This season is great as always, but probably the best season in my opinion was the one with Rob & Amber ... Rob brought that deceptive aspect from Survivor onto The Race ... If I had the time, I'd probably send audition tapes to be on those shows ... Unfortunately I don't meet the American requirement ... Back to The Race, I think that I could win that show easily ... The only question is, who would be my partner on the show? ...
-In movies, Alvin and the Chipmunks is coming out for the holiday season ... Seeing the trailer on TV brought back some good memories ... But it doesn't have the same feel as the original cartoon, with this hi-tech computer animation ... I'm probably the most nostalgic person out of everyone I know and cartoons today are nowhere close to what they used to be (Thundercats, He-Man, Voltron) ... Back to movies, I classify them into three groups: Theatre, Purchase, Rental ... Even though I want to see The Chipmunks I consider it a rental ...
-Hoping to chill with close friends and fam over the next few weeks

Mayweather-Hatton: just as expected
Caught the fight last night ... Can I call it, or can I call it? ... 6/6 in my boxing predictions this year ... Now let me give my take on Floyd Mayweather ... I've never doubted his talent, probably the most talented boxer in the world ... But Hatton is clearly not on his level, nor is Hatton a true welterweight, so I wasn't too impressed with the win ... Mayweather to his credit, got the knockout ... What was the deal with his entrance music? Born in the U.S.A. , obviously he was just trying to milk the few Americans in the crowd ... Then, what was the deal with him sucking up to the British fans after the fight ... "I always wanted to fight in the U.K., that didn't happen, so we brought the U.K.'s best over here", "I love the British fans" ... Mayweather said before the fight, something to the effect of "If you don't love me now, you'll soon be a fan" ... Well I'm still not a fan, regardless of how he was acting all classy after the fight ... As expected, Floyd announced that he's taking a break from boxing for a while (possibly all of 2008 and 2009), saying he wants to be a promoter ... But colour commentator Emmanuel Steward made a good point last night "Mayweather feels he has nothing to prove and fights with Miguel Cotto, Paul Williams, Kermit Cintron or Antonio Margarito would not generate big money, so Mayweather has nothing to gain at this point by fighting them, he's putting himself at risk" ... I guess what happens now is that, those four fighters all fight to determine who truly is the top welterweight by unifying all the titles ... I'm pulling for Cotto ... Face Oscar De La Hoya first, to get another victory over a legend, then face the winner of Williams/Cintron to unify the WBO and IBF titles with his WBA belt ... Then , that may be enough to convince Floyd to come out of his "retirement" for a superfight with Cotto ... A great year for boxing ...

Talk about stingy
I went to the local fish and chips place (I hate seafood, actually allergic to crabs, lobster and shrimp, but I don't mind fish and chips at all), anyways I saw that they had a lunch time special, $3.99 from 11AM-3PM ... So I went to place my order, asking for the lunch time special, but the guy was like "sorry, it's from 11-3" ... I looked up at their clock, it read 3:09 ... Talk about stingy ... I couldn't help but think of one of the greatest movies, Falling Down ... Only difference with this situation, I didn't fire a machine gun into the roof ...

Random Shots
-My mother called me from the Philippines after she arrived ... she informed me that there was an attempted coup, which got botched ... If there ever was a model for a stable government, it's gotta be the Philippines ***eye roll*** ...
-Riding the TTC during rush hour, the other day, made me seriously want to knock someone out ... First off, I was already trying to squeeze into a packed car, probably only space for one more ... Then this dude was pushing on me from behind, to try and squeeze in himself ... I turned to him and was like, "dude, why the f*ck you pushin?" ... The guy had nothing to say ... Then I was holding onto the poll, then this middle-aged dude coughed full out on my hand ... I was ready to snap, "You know how to f*ckin' cover your mouth?", the man said nothing ... Never again!
-did I miss something? ... The Spice Girls are back? ... Wouldn't they be the Spice Cooog's now? ... They're all showin' the effects of the ravages of time ...
-Hatton-Mayweather this Saturday ... I looked back and read my boxing predictions post from back in September ... I'm 5/5 in predicting the winner and 3/5 in predicting how the fights would end ... Come Saturday I'm a perfect 6/6 ...
I'm bored, All for now ...

Happy Birthday Octal
To complete the Birthday Greet Trifecta, Happy Birthday and Best Wishes to my boy Octal ... If any of you have read my birthday wishes to Anthro and Prophet, you'll already have the background on how those two, Octal and myself all became friends ... LOL, a very long history, I'd say they all know me better than anyone ... Out of the group, Octal and myself have known each other the longest, we've been in the same class since 3rd grade, best friends in that class, Mr. Clare's class, picture a teacher that looks like a cop, with the same build as the dad from Family Matters LOL ... Octal and myself were in similar situations, two guys that just moved to B-Town ... However, at Newman we weren't really tight, due to (what Prophet and myself refer to as) the "hierarchy" framework of the class, (I can see Octal's eyes rolling now, after referring to it as this) ... I gave my account of Octal's story to the Newman Boyz, but for the purposes of this blog I'll recount ... Octal was arguably the most popular person in the class, he didn't have any beef with anyone, nor was there anything negative said about him (except from maybe the ex-girlfriend, but we'll get to that ... uh, or maybe not, LOL), Octal was also the guy who had the top grades, but don't let that bookworm conception that you all are getting fool you, he was also the star athlete, a superstar in basketball and track (triple jump champ, if I'm not mistaken), really he excelled in any sport he played, recess sports: football, soccer, even down to the lowly recess games (red-a$$ and handball) ... To top it all off, Brian's girlfriend at the time, had the biggest ________ in the class, LOL ... What more could a guy want in school? ... I'll admit that I did look up to Octal at that time, because he did have it all, hell, he was the first to have Super Nintendo ... At the start of high school, Octal was not there alongside, Prophet, Anthro and myself, because he moved to 'Sauga, I guess in hindsight it worked out for him because as history would have it, that's where he would eventually meet the future wifey ... Thus, after elementary school, Octal and myself didn't talk ... Fastforward to this year, in the weeks leading up to Octal's wedding, that is when we re-established or, uh, established or, uh, re-established our friendship, uh, whatever way you want to look at it, LOL ... For Octal's bachelor party, we had a male-bonding session over a weekend in T-Dot, also present were, of course, Anthro, Prophet, myself and Octal's boys from school ... It was probably the most fun I've had in a while ... It started off on a Friday night with us having a few drinks at a bar, but in hindsight might've not been the best idea as it resulted in us gettin' thrown out of a club later that night, but I won't divulge the details on that ... Saturday, a lot of the guys had other things to do, so that afternoon Octal, Prophet and myself just chilled in T-Dot ... Later that afternoon, the other guys came back and we kicked it at a sportsbar north of the city ... Finally, to conclude matters, we hit up a "gentleman's" club, errr, an "exotic" establishment ... All I'll reveal about that night was that we had great hosts, Anastasia and Alisha, and were entertained with highlights ... damn, I saw moves that could've made it on ESPN Sportcenter, damn, those moves (in particular the "backflips", as Octal and myself would later describe them) were quicker than an Allen Iverson cross-over, LOL ... Finally, a week later, Octal was married, I told him I was proud of him, but I don't think I explained why, so I'll do that now, it's because he was the first out of our group to take that first step into manhood ... "boyhood to manhood" is a phrase that I've thrown out a lot, but Octal is a grown man now, having grown men's privileges, but dealing with grown men's issues ...
Octal, I felt honoured and privileged to be a part of that milestone achievement in your life this past summer ... I know that you, Anthro, Prophet and myself will all share in many more milestones down the road ... When it's my turn to take that "next step", you'll be one of the first people I call for some advice ... If you ever need a "guys night out", never hesitate to shout out your boys ... Or if you need a debate on the "TJ-Jose" issue, J-Smooth will be more than happy to give his side of the story ... Happy Birthday Bro!

Tales from the ACC
Just got back from my first live Raptor game in over a year (the last one was in last year's pre-season against Maccabi Tel Aviv) ... TJ Ford Bobblehead Night tonight, a definite can't miss game ... I was first in line at Gate 1, no lies ... It'll be the same story in March for Chris Bosh Bobblehead Night ... The first thing I did when I got in was head over to the set of the pre-game show that they film right in front of Gate 1 ... I looked up at the playback monitor and what do I see? ... both Chris Bosh and TJ Ford out of the lineup with injuries ... What a rip off!, each represent 50% of the reason why I watch the Raptors ... But that was alright, they still had "Super" Jamario Moon and Jason "Al" Kapono ... Moon can do it all, rebound, block shots, defend and a freakish athlete, Bryan Colangelo definitely pulled a diamond from the ruff ... Kapono, the only guy I know with a prettier jump shot than me, LOL, the man's release is the quickest I've seen and he's just dead accurate from beyond the arc ... If there was no Moon or Kapono tonight, I would've seriously considered taking my TJ bobblehead and going home ...
Flashback for a minute to one of my memorable moments at a Raptor game ... I was sitting in the Sprite Zone for a Raptors-Cavs game back in 2003 or 2004 ... Then I see former Raptor General Manager Glen Grunwald heading up the aisle ... I'm thinking, what's he doing all the way up here? ... Then he walked into my row, so I introduced myself ...
J-Smooth: (handshake) Mr. Grunwald
Grunwald: Hey, how you doin'?
J-Smooth: So do you wanna sign me to a basketball contract?
Grunwald: (laughs) Why are you a player?
J-Smooth: Yeah ... I'm good for 2 points and 2 boards a night if you play me 40 minutes
Grunwald: (laughs) O.K., you'll get your contract in the mail
Funny ... it's been 3-4 years and I'm still waiting ... maybe he didn't get my mail forwarded to my new address ... Anyways, back to the present ...
My cousin, Juddimac, met up with me in front of the set ...
Juddimac: I knew you'd be here
J-Smooth: How'd you know that?
Juddimac: Because where ever there are television cameras, I know that's where you'll be
I looked across the set and I see Raptor broadcaster Chuck Swirsky getting ready for his appearance on the pre-game show, in the meantime he was shaking hands and taking pictures ... I've met Chuck before, he's always been a nice guy ... I went up to him ...
J-Smooth: (handshake) Hey Chuck, I listen to your show on the FAN590 a lot
Swirsk: oh man, you're a baller (then he sticks his fist out to give me daps, LOL)
J-Smooth: can I get a picture?
I pulled out my camera phone and Juddimac took the pic ... LOL, J-Smooth and The Swirsk, two of T-Dot's biggest trademark intellectual properties ... I'd post that pic on Facebook or my blog, but my archaic-self doesn't know how to do the transfer from my phone ... It's my new wallpaper on my phone though, LOL ...
The pre-game player intros ... Again, no Bosh or Ford ... And who are their replacements? ... Joey Graham and Jose Calderon ... the opposition must be running scared, LOL ... When Jose's name got introduced, I booed him as loud as I could ... Jose-haters gotta represent ... As I did this, Chipy's wall post on my Facebook page came to mind ... a direct quote, "your hate for Calderon is incredulous" ... LOL, damn right! ... Someone please direct him to my blog ... If you need a dose of Calderon hate, J-Smooth is your hookup, holler at your boy! ... Throughout the game, I yelled out "You suck Calderon!", with every one of his missed jumpers or layups ... The thing that made me cringe the most was how the crowd did their "O-le, Ole, Ole, Ole" soccer chant for Jose, in this case "Jo-se, Jose, Jose, Jose" ... I gave my remix hater version ... "Hose-G@y", LOL, you get the point ...
The Raps were up 20 for a good portion of the game ... which became secondary, when I saw this Filipino chick, in my estimation her early 20's, sitting two rows down and to the left of me and my cousin ... Even Juddimac, who has a girl, thought she looked good ... My type of Filipina: simple, natural, beautiful ... But the story of my life, there's always a catch ... She was sitting with her parents ... Even the most skilled players couldn't pull that one off ... instead, I was left to telling my cousin what my pickup lines to that chick would be ...
First, I could start off with "Sssssst" or "Hoy!" ... If she gave me cut-eye for that, I'd come back quick with a response "is your name Hoy?" ... Then I was thinking I'd just be blunt, "Kantutan Tayo?", LOL ... Her parents probably would've got security to escort me from the building for that one ...
Back to the game ... Jose p!ssed me off even further, when he didn't pass the ball to Moon (who was doing all the dirty work tonight, blocking shots and he had something like 12 or 13 rebounds) ... No Bosh or Ford, I wanna see a nasty Jamario dunk ... But Calderon continually over-dribbled the ball and killed the shot clock to under 10 seconds, after which he'd usually take the shot for himself ... One play, Calderon clearly was hogging the ball and took it coast to coast for the score, but the crowd loved it though, ughhhhh ... With the Raptors up 20 in the 4th, what was their "starting" point guard still doing on the floor? ... Only one exlanation, trying to pad his stats, talk about egotistical! ...
Overall, it was a fun night, a good release from my everyday pressures ...

Global Warming my a$$
If this planet is supposedly heating up, how does that explain me breaking my back, shoveling in snow, almost knee deep, for 1.5 hours? ... My sis and myself looked at each other and said almost simulataneously, "We should've got mom and dad a snowblower for Christmas" ... Winter decided to kick hard this year ... my sis said "thank God I don't have to deal with this for the rest of my life" ... she's moving to Cali in just over a year's time ... that's cool, it gives me a reason to head out to the southwestern U.S. tri-state area AZ-NV-CA (Phoenix-Las Vegas-Los Angeles), I could make that an annual, if not, bi-annual trip to go along with my annual New York City-New Jersey trip ... Anyway, back to the weather, this damn developing city! ... It's about 2:45 and the plows still haven't come around, for this city, that means they'll be here in about a week from Tuesday ... LOL ... To be honest, I really don't mind the cold weather, but I hate the snow, because it means having to give yourself extra time in the morning if you're heading out ... Thank God, for the rest of 2007, I only have to really head out 5 more times ... If I had my choice, I'd hibernate for winter ... leaves me more time to watch Family Channel, if you're wondering what I'm watching ... keep wondering ... this is a blog, not a tell all, LOL ...
