NBA All-Stars

The reserves for the NBA All-Star game were announced tonight ... hahahahahah ... no Calderon, Scrub! ... and LMFAO at all the other scrubs in Toronto that believe in him ... putting Calderon in the All-Star game is basketball blasphemy, it would indicate that he's on the same level as those in the game ... All the Toronto media is upset about Calderon's "snub" ... but who on the East reserves is Calderon more deserving than? ... The one undeserving player I think is Joe Johnson, it should've been Turkoglu, who's playing out of his mind right now ... "The basic rule of storms is that they continue until the imbalance that created them is corrected" ... I think the Jose Calderon storm is over ...

On another note, watching Calderon play, would make for a good drinking game ... Every time Jose gets "blown-by" by his man, drink a shot ... Every time Jose pulls up on a 3-0n-2 break, drink a shot ... LOL ...

new/separate school system

I was just commenting in another post on how race was such a touchy issue these days ... When I first heard about the proposed "Africentric" or "black-focused" schools, I immediately thought, what? an all-black school? but then I got the details, a school taught from the african-canadian and african perspective ... Now, they say that the schools are still open to all ... they say the reason they need this, is because a good percentage of black students are failing ... this to me is pretty much the same concept as "faith based schools" ... I'm assuming that funding will be provided in the same manner ... On one hand, one problem that I have with it is that it may create a divide ... Just brainstorming right now, how many subjects can really be taught in the black perspective? ... mathematics are pretty much universal, same goes with science ... history is the big one that can ... Maybe elements of english (ie. novels, poetry) ... I may seem to be riding the fence with my position right now, that's probably because I'm thinking about this on the fly ... but back to my whole "divide" concern ... Doesn't this open the floodgates to other "focused" schools ... I mean the GTA and Vancouver have significant ethnic populations, what comes next? a South American focused school? an Asian focused school? then maybe divide it further, Chinese schools or Filipino schools ... If I could go back to high school, would I be more interested if I was being taught from the Filipino perspective (LOL, I could see it now, a class full of FOBs)? Yes, at first ... but knowing myself, eventually the novelty would wear off and my success would ultimately come down to how hard I work ... I guess that's my answer, you can try to spice up the curriculum all you want, even provide a new one, but ultimately it all comes down to the individual and how determined they are to succeed, regardless of their race/ethnicity/religion ... But I'm a liberal, try it out, see how it works ...

Purpose

Purpose: defined as something set up as an object or end to be attained ... Now the question, what gives something, more specifically ourselves, that purpose? ...

Innate? well that would indicate pre-determination, which means no control, which makes us no different from the things we build, no different from a machine, thus choice, is nothing but an illusion ...

From a divine power? a theory which is contingent on the existence of a divine being, if there were none, does that mean there is no purpose? which further implies that purpose is merely a concept, however doesn't exist, because we are random; If there were a divine being, it may imply that we may never know or understand our purpose ...

from our external environment? then purpose is determined by where we are located or what environment we were born into, therefore purpose is chance ...

from ourselves? meaning we determine what our purpose is, our choice, under our control, nothing random, not by chance ... Say we accept this, so we go on living our lives, making decisions, performing acts, setting goals, reaching them, lead a fulfilling life ... but just because we think that is our purpose, is that what it really is? ... I am certain of one thing, purpose like "control" and "chance" are concepts, which we have assigned those names ... and characteristic of other concepts, they hold no physical space and aren't quantified my measuring ... other concepts: what is love? what is truth? ... none of these concepts are experienced by the senses ... so the main question: how do we know/understand our purpose? ... My answer, is the same as my answers to understanding "love" and "truth", is the same thing that gets me through my life, it is another concept ...

Faith

we may never learn the real meaning of love, truth or purpose, thus the search for those should not be what get you through life ... Faith is really the only thing we can depend on ... it doesn't matter what you believe, the important thing is that you believe in something ...

maybe faith is what gives us purpose?

now, what is my ultimate purpose? ... I don't know, but I have faith that I will be lead to it ...

good and evil

-today I learned the true meaning of charity ... being completely selfless and giving ... without anything in return ... something that made me feel proud and inspired at the same time ... the true sense of humanity ...

-then I got a glimpse inside the mind of the truly evil ... hoping that there was some good and rationale behind it ... but, there are just those who simply cannot be saved ... just no conscience, and a twisted sense of right and wrong ...

-two ends of a wide spectrum, where do I plot myself?

Filipino "Left Wing"

Last night, I was out with Anthro ... we went to this Filipino association thing, but the name escapes my memory at this point ...

A bit of an aside ... Anthro says he can't sit in the Upper Bowl for a Raptors game any longer, he's been "spoiled" by sitting near floor level ... LMAO ... Anthro's gone Bougie ... but he says he'll go, so that's three down (Anthro, Mype and myself) ... Prophet and Octal, the ball's in your court ...

Anyhow, back to the association ... we were meeting to discuss the "Filipino-Canadian experience" ... Everyone was pretty candid, as was I, and for those that know me, isn't much of a stretch by any means ... The association itself, gets involved in a bunch of events, some informative, some artistic, some social ... But, I also found out that they're heavily political, and greatly "left wing" ... Now with politics, I obviously have my opinions, but it's a game I'd rather not get directly involved with ... Anthro asked me last night to be honest about what I thought ... I'm sayin' the exact same thing I told him last night ... As far as the education part of the association, I'm down with that ... the social aspect of it, ditto ... but as far as gettin' in the trenches and confronting riot police head on, let's just say I pick my battles, and I'm not about to get beat up, for something that I don't need to be ... But I will say this though, based on first impressions, it's not like these Filipino youth groups, more specifically the Christian groups that use the excuse of God to get together and socialize ... Another thing, that I didn't observe last night was any hypocracy, something which is very typical of the "other" youth groups who send a message then don't practise it themselves ...

As far as my Filipino Canadian experiences go ... Equality? Multiculturalism? Racism? ... As I've gotten older, I've really begun to see the different playing fields the different cultures in Canada have to deal with on a daily basis ... An equal playing field? oh hell no ... Racism in Canada is still alive and well, "they" have just done a better way of covering it up ... multiculturalism, that's the one positive that I can vouch for, I mean, all you have to do is take a look at my friends, if you saw us all separately, you'd think there's no way we can all be friends, we're all so diverse, ethnicity and personality ... I'm very proud of my Filipino heritage, I've come to appreciate it more as I've grown ... It was suggested last night that Filipinos more than any other ethnicity blend in better than the other immigrant cultures ... I'd have to say I partially agree ... Filipinos, myself included, get caught up in trying to conform to other cultures, in my case Latino, Black, White ... Thus, there really isn't much of a Filipino identity ... Another issue, the state of the Filipino community ... I raised this last night, how we really don't have much representation, be it, corporate or political, you don't see our "face" up there as much ... Unfortunately that will be the only way we ever get equally represented, or have a voice ...

To conclude the night, Anthro and myself hung out with his cousin Roldy ... We were downing a couple and crackin' jokes, much like I do with my family at parties ... I knew Roldy from back in the day as well, he used to come over for the summers and stayed at Anthro's place ... I remember that he came over to my house, usually some time after lunch and we'd play ball until 9-10 at night ... Roldy said he remembered me because of that too, I was "the only guy on the street that played ball" ... We were both sayin' how we couldn't believe that 14 years had passed ... We hit up a pool hall later that night, Anthro was his usual c*cky self, LMFAO ... He was talkin' some serious sh!t, LOL ... We were pretty much playing where winner stays ... Anthro was like, "don't worry, I'll pay for this, I've been playing the whole time anyways" ... LOL, talkin' sh!t, it must've rubbed off me ...

I'm still wiped ...

100th Entry

100 Baby! ... The century mark! ... and to commemorate, a new look! ... As promised, let’s get down to business ...

Some random shots to start off:

-I’m going out on a limb here ... I’m predicting that the Pats are taking the Super Bowl ...

-A UFO sighting in Texas about a week back ... and oh, what a surprise, U.S. government/military evading any definitive comment ... just because it’s a UFO, people already assume aliens or extra-terrestrial beings ... but UFO’s could just be classified military projects ... However, if that were true, wouldn’t we have seen the experimental aircrafts that were sighted 20-30 years ago by now, like how the stealth bomber was a secret military project, then declassified ... I’ve already answered to my beliefs on the existence of life “out there” ...

-man is this world sensitive ... this whole Tiger Woods, “lynching” comment thing was blown waaaaay out of proportion ... there was no malice behind it ... Tiger said it didn’t bother him, so why the heck does it bother everyone else? ... damn media, just looking for stories and controversy ... I’m sayin’, you have to be so politically correct these days, it’s not even funny ... people need to F’n lighten up ...

-I’ve been reading up lately on comparisons and contrasts between the U.S. and Canadian Health Care Systems ... Now am I a believer in universal access to Health Care, which Canada has? Yes ... The question is, should we allow Canadians the option for private Health Care? My take, Why not ... If they can afford it, that’s on them ... The fear is that everyone will jump over to the private system, if made available ... but reading up on the U.S. system, I’m pretty sure most Canadians will balk at it, once they look at its features ... The list is kind of long to get into all of it ... but the message, “read the fine print” ...

-For no reason at all, I`ve been drinking a lot of Kool-Aid lately ...

-U.S. politics, boy is it a dirty game ...

-American Idol really needs to give it up ...

Gotta talk some ball and boxing:

-All-Star game around the corner ... don’t really care much for it ... What the h3ll happened to D-Wade? Sure he’s still one of the elite players in the game, but he’s just not as exciting to watch anymore, I find myself more excited watching Brandon Roy now ... Boy, is Chris Paul something special, I’m just waiting for a night where he goes off for 30 points and 20 assists ... I hit up the adidas website this morning, clicked over to the basketball section and watched the “brotherhood” videos ... But watching them made me sad ... seeing T-Mac and Mr. Big Shot (Chauncey) ... Two former Raptors that became elite players, both still my favourite Raptors of all time ...

-Taylor-Pavlik 2 coming up ... can’t wait ... so De La Hoya decides to go for a rematch with Mayweather ... my question ... WHY? ... how will the outcome be any different from last time ... it’s not like the first was an entertaining fight to begin with ... but money talks ... I, like many boxing fans, am sick of the politicking and alphabet soup surrounding the title picture ... hopefully boxing gets its act together in its marquee divisions: heavy, middle and welterweight ...
Inside the mind of J-Smooth:

-Truth: there is a God ... I have no doubt that a man named Jesus walked the Earth ... whether he was son of God, will be forever be debated by the world ... but, for one man to have that kind of impact, that 1 third of the world’s population follows him, there must be something to it ... purpose, destiny, the ultimate, we may never fully understand these, nor might we be intended to, they might just be beyond the realm of human understanding

-My inner circle: I’m keepin’ that small, there’ll probably be only one more person added to it ... that would be the future Mrs. ... I’ve just always been that way ... Trust and Respect have never been awarded to people by me that easily ... However, I’ve been fortunate and blessed to have good people surrounding me ...

-Future: hopefully it holds nothing but the best ... but I don`t live in fear of it ...

-Stress: merely a state of mind ... I don`t ever let it dictate ...

A final message to an old friend:

I’ve known you since I was young. Growing up, I always liked you. As I got older, I saw you a lot more often. I definitely had a love for you. At one point, having you became the routine. It came to the point where I’d have you two times in one session. It was like an addiction, if ever I was in your area, I’d make the quick stop over. But after a while things changed. My family and close friends started telling me that you were no good for me, but I didn’t listen. Then, it became about the money, I started spending more on you as the years went by. Then finally, it came to the point where I looked at myself in the mirror, and I didn’t like what I saw, how you affected me or what I had become. That’s when I made the decision to cut you off. Up till a few days ago, I think it had been more than 3 years since I last saw you. I’m not going to lie, you used to be good, but I guess I grew up or maybe we just grew apart. Then I made the decision to have you again a few days ago, thinking it could be like it was before. But I can definitely say that, my love for you is in the past and it will remain there. So I say goodbye.

Saturday Night Time Wasters

After another Saturday spent on home renos/projects, some down time ...

-watched the Raps game, waste of time ... I take back what I said about Bosh, he's a very good player and nice piece for the Raptors' future ... Jamario Moon would be another one, with his all-round game: he blocks shots, rebounds, clogs the passing lanes, an explosive athlete ... If he can start hitting the jumper consistently, he'll be a nice utility player for years to come, ala Scottie Pippen ... I look forward to the dunk contest at this year's all-star game ... Jamario was a Harlem Globetrotter, so he should have some creativity with his slams ... I can't end this commentary without ripping on Calderon ... he gets abused on a nightly basis by opposing PG's, his defense is just horrible ... now, to go along with his three-finger salute and jumping hand-clap defense, how he's brought the bobble head defense into his arsenal ... watch him when he runs at the shooter, his head is moving like a bobble head ... LOL ... Raps game, waste of time ...

-I watched the Steve Molitor fight on TSN ... what an amateur operation that was ... the production, commentary, refereeing left much to be desired ... And for a Jr. Featherweight, Molitor is such a boring fighter ... Defensive style boxing, ughhh ... He supposedly wants a title unification fight with the big names to add another belt to his IBF crown ... If he fights like he did last night, no way he gets a big money fight ... The first indicator has to be that the fight took place at Casino Rama, in Orillia, Canada ... No not Toronto, Orillia, north of Canada's Wonderland, I already think Woodbridge is a great distance, but Orillia?, might as well have the fight in some barn up in Sault Ste. Marie? .. but if Molitor can somehow coerce a guy like Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista to come up there and fight, I'll fill up the truck with gas, put on my lumberjack sweater, beaver skin cap and make the trek up to Orillia, LMFAO ... Molitor is not a draw, if that fight took place in New York, New Jersey or Las Vegas, they would've been booed out of the building ... boxing on TSN, waste of time ...

-I didn't catch the Roy Jones - Felix Trinidad fight live last night ... I've never been a huge fan of Jones or Trinidad ... I wasn't willing to pay or even drive to someone's house to watch two washed up fighters ... But conveniently someone posted the fight on YouTube, so I watched it this morning, boy am I glad I didn't waste my time last night doing that ... Bernard Hopkins was right, when after Jones lost his athleticism and speed, he became a common fighter ... Now after beating a washed up "Tito" he's calling for Joe Calzaghe and Hopkins ... Jones needs to hang 'em up seriously ... blogging about Roy Jones Jr., another waste of time ...

My next post will be my 100th ... Wow! ... Be on the lookout for post 100, I'll be sure to fill it with tons of cuts, comedy and real talk ... It'll probably be in a few days though ...

Teletoon Retro

I just discovered a new channel, while viewing the TV guide, I'm assuming it's been on for a while, but I haven't really noticed ... Teletoon Retro ... just checking scheduling, they show: Superfriends, Scooby-Doo, Jetsons, Flintstones ... Looks like just a bunch of Hannah Barbara cartoons ... I thought of this "retro toon" network back in high school, but featuring all the best "back in the day" toons, ie. He-Man, Voltron, Thundercats ... I guess the broadcasting rights were probably too much $$$ to pick up ... I'm assuming so, because of the jacked up prices for the box-sets of each of those shows ... nearly $60 for half a season, WTF?!, that's bullsh*t! ...

The day I became one of "them"

Have you ever seen those people, who look like they're wandering around aimlessly? they look like they've got a thousand thoughts racing in their mind per minute ... more specifically they look like their bodies are moving ahead of their heads, LOL ... When you bump into them, you're like "WTF?!", then they're so zoned out they can't say anything ... well today, I'm in the same situation, but roles reversed ... my head, a million thoughts racing at the same time I'm in quite a hurry ... Then BAM!, one of my oldest friends is right in front of me ... It was Mype, he said something to the effect of "you looked so spaced out" ... I stopped at chatted for a bit, but I was still in quite a hurry ... But he did suggest, the next C-Newman outing should be a Raptors game ... Ahhhh, one of those "we should do that" things with Newman, that most of the time never gets off the ground ... But I'm calling out Anthro, Prophet and Octal, we should do a Raps game, then grab a bite afterwards, we're due for an outing ... Mype and myself are down ...

Gotta show love to my boy Shivers, check the link on my page, under "affiliates", it's Shivers' MySpace site ... the tracks are laid down, but little to no lyrics ... he said it was still pretty rough ... a couple years ago I was writing spits, but no time for it right now, and no motivation ... Yo Shivers, don't make me come at you in a spit, LMFAO ...

J-Smooth status update ... no not that status

J-Smooth is in the 4th quarter, the 12th round ... the culmination of a life-long journey, where dreams become a reality, where mortals become legends ... LOL ... do I ever feel pressure or nervous or sense of urgency ... Not in most situations ... this one is no different ... The biggest thing that I've learned over the past 10 years has been to always, Stay Calm, Be Confident and Take Control as much as you can, no matter what the situation ... Don't ever let anyone take from you, what you know you have ...

Enough with that inspirational garbage, what's up with J-Smooth?

-purchased the Muhammad Ali: The Whole Story DVD ... chronicles his career ... I'm looking forward to that coming in the mail ... He's not my fave fighter, because he was before my time ... But there is no doubt who "The Greatest" was ... Mike Tyson will probably always be on top of my list, one word, Dominant ... Manny Pacquiao, of course, gotta show love to the national hero ... Shane Mosley, is on that list too ... Miguel Cotto, Kelly Pavlik and Paul Williams I'm sure will be up on my list when their careers are all set and done ...

-my weekends are spend on home renos, gives me the opportunity to spend some time and learn from my number one guy, my father ...

that's pretty much it ... man, am I a boring guy ...

State of Pro Wrestling

A couple months ago, I posted my review of Bret "The Hitman" Hart's autobiography ... I considered it a tribute to wrestling ... In the upcoming months, the WWE is set to release DVD's on Randy "Macho Man" Savage, "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and "The Rock", I'll be sure to grab at least a couple of those ... If Bret's book was the tribute, then those DVD's definitely are the nail in the coffin for me ... For those that know me, pro wrestling was a way of life for myself back in the day ... so what happened? ... Could it be that I've grown out of it? ... Maybe ... However, I think it's more so the poor product that the WWE has at this moment ... Here are a few problems that I can identify ...

1) The lack of a marquee name to carry the brand - In the 80's it was Hulk Hogan ... In the late 90's it was Austin and The Rock ... Currently the WWE doesn't have anyone like those guys ... While "The Undertaker" has been the franchise and one of their biggest stars, he has no where close to the drawing power or money-making ability as those previously mentioned stars ... WWE would probably consider John Cena or Batista their marquee guys, but again, don't come close to Hogan, Austin or Rock when it comes to money-making or star power ...

2) The brand extension - the entire roster has been split into three different shows ... fans want to see the best match ups possible, but you can't do that with the talent split ...

3) No competition - with the death of WCW, the WWE has no real pressure to put out the best possible product ... The Monday Night Wars with WCW were what brought out the best in all the wrestlers and both shows ... It'll be a while before another company can develop the type of fan base to compete with WWE ...

4) The lack of significance in championships - When I was younger, titles meant something and title switches were huge ... it's a different ball game today ... The belt is more like a stage prop nowadays ... It doesn't help that John Cena made the WWE Championship into a "spinner belt" ...

The wrestling business is definitely in a downturn ... It has come back strong before ... but speaking as a former hardcore fan, I don't think it will bounce back this time ...

Reality TV garbage; Terminator Episode 2

-With TV saturated with reality shows, it's really gone overboard now ... I saw a preview for one show ... The premise: Philadelphia parking enforcement, cameras follow them around dealing with the people and the cars they ticket ... WTF?! ... Why not show people who clean out sewers for a living ... I mean, parking enforcement?! ... And here I was about a week ago, thinking people wouldn't care if I put out a video podcast ... I'm sure I could put out a better show than that parking enforcement garbage that they put out ...

-caught bits of the Amazing Race today ... one of the last few remaining reality shows with some intrigue ... the others being: The Contender and (in my opinion hanging on by a thread) Survivor ... American Idol needs to give it a rest, ala Star Search ... But unfortunately it's become a franchise, one of FOX's biggest cash cows ...

-oh yes, I did catch Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles' second episode tonight ... I don't know why, but I'm not bored at all watching the show ... kind of like I was a few years ago, watching Smallville (which needs to end, by the way, too many recycled storylines) ... Back to Terminator, the whole episode centred around getting fake ID's for themselves, that's all, but I still wasn't bored ... All the hardcore fans will say that this show is killing the Terminator mythology, I argue to the contrary, it just adds bits to it ... Ahhhh, and Summer Glau, my new love interest, LOL ...

now this is out of left field ... I've been reading up on the different health care systems around the world over the past few days ... I may give my take on that in a blog sometime this week, or maybe not ... we'll see ...

2nd Post, Terminator TV Series

So did anyone catch the new Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles series? ... I'm heavily biased because I think that female terminator/bodyguard on the show is hot ... Summer Glau, a new fresh face, new to me anyways ... As far as the actual show goes, the actress that plays Sarah Connor, Lena Headey, is definitely no Linda Hamilton, doesn't have the same charisma and is definitely not Sarah-esque ... However, I give the producers credit for trying ... For the hardcore Terminator fans, they will probably hate this new TV series as much as they hated Terminator 3 ... I watched Terminator 3 on television the other day (I've seen it before), story-wise it wasn't that bad, I actually thought it was very good, but they could've got some more attractive actress to play John Connor's love interest in the movie, Claire Danes to put it mildly was not good looking at all ... On a side note, every time they bring up the name "Skynet", it sounds like some obsolete cell phone company ... I enjoyed the first episode of this new TV series and am anxious to see where they go from here ... next episode is tomorrow night ... I'm giving this series a chance, whatever my reasons, whether it be nostalgia or whatever ...

Ughhhhh; Ungreatfulness

-Watched the Raps-Blazers game today ... I did something uncharacteristic though, I flipped over to the Colts-Chargers game ... But eventually went back to the Raps game ... O.K. let's bring it up ... Calderon at the end of the first overtime, with the 3 (which replays show was a 2) ... I turned over to my father and said, "watch, I'm going to get some phone calls" ... Sure enough, count 7 seconds, it was a phone call from Hamilton, my cousins calling to rub it in my face ... But just then, Brandon Roy hit that clutch jumper to push the game into double overtime ... I don't think I've jumped that high or screamed that loud in the past couple of years ... Here is J-Smooth devout Raptor fan, cheering for the opposition ... what made Roy's shot sweet was hitting it right in the eyes of Calderon, LOL ... My response to my cousins, "WTF was that?" ... As soon as I hung up with them, another phone call, this time from Woodbridge, it was my uncle, "Hey, did you see my boy Jose", just to spite me ... My response, "did you see him give up that jumper to Roy?" ... All I can say is, what a great family ... But I guess I should feel good, just seeing how my opinions matter so much to them that they'd go through the trouble of calling long distance just to spite me ...

-On another note, imagine a homeless person, then another individual takes that homeless guy into his house, prepares him a feast, puts clothes on his back, puts a temporary roof over his head, then gets him contacts for employment ... That homeless guy has all the tools in the world now to support himself ... Then on his way out, he turns and slaps that generous individual in the face ... Currently, a few people in my life are just like that homeless guy ... And it pretty much disgusts me ...

Blu-ray; Blue Jays; Wishin' for blue

-Warner Brothers has decided to release their movies exclusively to Sony's Blu-ray format ... this is considered to be a major blow to Toshiba's HD-DVD format ... I say this technology is advancing way too fast ... I'm still perfectly contented with DVD's, not that I wouldn't get a blu-ray player, although it's just not practical right now ...

-Word is that the Toronto Blue Jays are on the verge of trading Troy Glaus for Scott Rolen ... I'm looking for any reason possible to cheer for the Jays ... It's been way too long since that 1993 World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies ... There was talk earlier this off-season that if the Jays managed to trade outfielder Alex Rios, they would make an offer to Kenny Lofton ... Now, if the Jays had Frank Thomas and Kenny Lofton back in the day, they would be considered legit championship contenders ... Personally, I've always been a big fan of Lofton and I'd love to see him sporting a Jays uniform ... However, the Jays are in the worst possible division in baseball, competing with two teams that have unlimited budgets in the Yankees and Red Sox ...

-I wish I was in a place with blue skies right now, the grey in the sky makes me drowsy ...

Re-charged ... Finally; Random Shots

Last night I got a full 9 hours, straight, un-interrupted ... Today, my day off ... This afternoon, took a nap for 4.5 hours ... Woke up, felt re-charged, for the first time in the past 8 months ...

well a few randoms for my blog faithfuls:

-Sly Stallone, comin' out with a new Rambo movie? WTF?! ... now there's someone trying to milk the nostalgia card for what it's worth ... but to his credit, the last Rocky movie wasn't as bad as I expected ...

-Reports are out on a possible American recession ... Now word has dropped on a Canadian recession ... doesn't bother me at all ... the financial scene over history is a series of peaks and valleys ... nothing wrong with that ...

-I'm feelin' the new Sony Walkman ... a lot better than the iPod ... my sis and myself got one for my mother for Christmas, now I want one for myself ... It's got an FM tuner and a longer battery life ... I was talking to an electronics "expert" the other day, he tells me that iPods are not built to last ... people can argue iPod superiority with regards to harddrive space, but there's really no need for it unless you want to download tons of videos ... Myself personally, if I wanted to watch videos, I prefer them on a big screen, like a TV ... but whatever works for people ...

-Marion Jones got her sentence today ... 6 months ... I'm not really a fan of track and field, every single athlete that participates is "juiced", there are only a few that are dumb enough to get caught ... there are illegal substances now that are virtually undetectable in drug tests ... I think some track stars are made into scape goats ... ala Ben Johnson ... but there were reports that came out a few years ago naming Carl Lewis, but did it result in stripping the gold medal off of him (which belonged to Johnson)? No, because of American politics ... the only reason why Jones got booked is because steroids are a hot topic right now ... But again, there is so much hypocracy on the steroid front as well ... Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa ... do they come after McGwire or Sosa?, no, because Bonds is their scapegoat ... no double standards in sports ... steroids are an epidemic in sports, but the bigger problem to me is the politics ...

-what's the big deal with this writer's strike? ... I don't watch enough TV to actually notice a difference, or actually care for that matter ... so they don't have new TV series episodes or new movies ... so what? ... find something else to do ...

-reports are out from a former lover of Lindsay Lohan, telling all of their business ... That's one of the reasons why I'm glad I'm not a celebrity ... imagine my former partners coming out with a J-Smooth tell-all ... I can imagine it now ... "damn J", "so demanding", "it's like he's in a race, trying for a record time", "so many unorthodox styles" ... LMFAO

-a lot of talk in the GTA calling for schools to do regular checks on lockers for concealed weapons ... good idea, but if someone is hell bent on using a weapon, they'll use it and find a way to bring it to school ... shivalry is definitely dead, an after school scrap would usually signify the end of things back in the day, these days it doesn't end until someone dies ... then you see it all the time on the news, teary-eyed relatives and friends talking about how the victim was a good person ... sure, there are the innocent victims, but there are those who put themselves in situations that they should be in ... the way I look at it, you only find trouble if you go out looking for it, trouble doesn't find you ...

-anyone else like consuming cold food products in the cold of winter? people clown me all the time for bein' a polar bear ... pretty odd considering I was born in a tropical country ... But I love Ice Cream, 7/11 Slurpees & Tim Horton's Iced Caps no matter what season it is ...

-browsing through the TV guide, nothing on the tube tonight ... back in the day there was TGIF ... shows like Family Matters, Boy Meets World and my personal fave, Perfect Strangers ... TV needs and is missing Balki ... LOL ... me personally I'm missing Topanga, LMFAO ...

Nothing else comes to mind at this moment ... good night!

The case of J-Smooth versus Arizona's Finest

Judge: “Does the plaintiff wish to present his opening statements?”

J-Smooth: “Yes your honor, the facts of the case are these:”

“On the evening of April 8th, 2003, in Phoenix, Arizona, there was a conversation between myself and the defendant. It occurred in the parking lot of a Chinese restaurant, after a goodbye dinner thrown for me on the part of the defendant and his family. There was a discussion about the state of the Toronto Raptors and their imminent lottery pick after that NBA season. I made the claim that the Raptors would secure the first overall selection in that draft, thus allowing the team to acquire LeBron James. The defendant disagreed with this claim and thus a wager of ten American dollars was made. As history would show, the Raptors were unsuccessful in attaining the first overall selection. However, they were able to draft promising young power forward Chris Bosh. To this date the aforementioned ten American dollars have remained unpaid.

A few years later, on December 31st, 2006, in Tagaytay, Philippines, a popular summer getaway location of the country, the defendant and I were both present. It was there that other basketball-related discussions between the defendant and myself took place. Some of the discussions regarded our mutual admiration for the Arizona Wildcats. The conversations would eventually focus on the National Basketball Association. The defendant stated his preference for the Dallas Mavericks, while I declared my allegiance to the Toronto Raptors. I argued that the emergence of Chris Bosh coupled with the newly acquired point guard TJ Ford would eventually propel the Raptors to championship status. These conversations would continue over the next few days, culminating in another wager.

On the early morning hours of January 2nd, 2007, another discussion took place, while the defendant and I were headed to the Philippine International Airport for our scheduled flight to the popular Philippine tourist island of Boracay. I made two claims. First, I stated that Bosh was the second best young big-man in the NBA behind Dwight Howard. Secondly, Ford was the third best young lead guard in the NBA behind Chris Paul and Deron Williams. My conclusion was that the Raptors had the best young big-small combination in the entire NBA and therefore had the pieces in place to secure and NBA championship in 5 years. The plaintiff strongly disagreed. Thus, the wager was placed, in the presence of several witnesses, whom can all verify the wager and all of whom may be subpeonaed at a later date to corroborate these events.

The terms and conditions:
1)The Raptors would have to win the championship within the earliest of either the next 5 seasons or 5 years
2)The loser of the wager would have to purchase an authentic NBA jersey and a pair of Jordan Brand sneakers, both of the winner’s preference

Considering that the wager was placed on January 2nd, 2007 and based on calculations from world-renowned mathematical experts, the latest possible date for the Raptors to win the NBA championship would be June of 2012.

On January the ninth of this year, the defendant attempted to falsify the terms and conditions of the wager by indicating that I had until the year 2011 for the Raptors to win the championship. These are the facts of the case and they are undisputed.”

“I, the plaintiff, believe that the statements of the defendent, in which he attempted to shave 1 year off of our wager, demonstrate growing fears and levels of anxiety on his part, with regards to the January 2nd, 2007 wager. Thus, I propose that an agreement be reached that will be beneficial for both parties, while at the same time ensuring the past debt of the April 8th, 2003 wager be rewarded to the defendant.”

-Hey Zona, maybe we should settle, in order to avoid any negative publicity or nasty legal battles … after all, we are Family … I don't think either one of us want to end up like Cypher on The Matrix, wondering "Why didn't I take the blue pill" ... LOL ...

A couple of sidenotes:

-First, this should give all of my 3 faithful readers an indication on what kind of environment I was raised under ... I word, Competitive ... That's definitely what the "C" in D-MAC stands for ... However, I'd say that this is only a mild case of the competitiveness ...

-Secondly, I would have to say this is my greatest and most creative post ever! LMFAO ...

Collections

I'm not really a materialistic person, sure I love clothing and electronics, but I don't sweat it if I don't have certain things ... There are things that I collect though ...

1) Caps - I've got quite a few, of course I have my NY's and LA's covered, as far as the designs of those hats, I try to get something that looks unique, I'd like to add a White Sox cap ...

2) DVDs - I have a ton, probably my favourite ones: Love & Basketball, Coming to America; the ones I regret getting: The Longest Yard, Wedding Crashers; ones that people would be surprised I have: The Wizard ("I love the Power Glove ... It's so bad"); ones I'm feelin' right now: George Lopez: Seasons 1 & 2 ...

When I reward myself for anything, I usually hit the stores and purchase a cap or dvd ...

3) NBA Jerseys and 4) Shoes - Not really collections but Zona will be adding to them by 2012, LOL ...

5) NBA Rookie Cards - of course Ford, Bosh, Howard, Paul, Wade, Arenas; even though I'm not a fan, LeBron (hey, I'm an entrepreneur, I understand the concept of buy low and sell high) ...

6) Diecast model cars - my favourite: probably the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren; my most valued: the McLaren F1; one that looks cool: Cadillac Escalade EXT (in white, with spinners); I'd like to add one of: "Eleanor" the 1967 Shelby Ford Mustang GT500 (Gone in 60 Seconds), DeLorean (Back to the Future) or a Rolls Royce Phantom (unfortunately they don't make it) ...

I used to collect CDs in the pre-downloading age ...

Another thing I used to collect was "Beefs" ... LOL ... I haven't really added any to my collection over the past few years ... Probably because I'm more laid back now than I ever was ... I had a huge collection back in elementary and expanded on it in high school ... On the above list, I collect those things because they make, what can sometimes be a boring and monotonous life, entertaining and keep me amused (works kind of like a baby's soother, LOL) ... "Beefs" on the other hand, are not as entertaining as they once were, LMFAO ... Boy, the stories I could tell with those, but I'll save that for another time, another blog ...

Yorkdale; Best Buy; Podcasts

I was waiting for the GO Bus today, and for the first time that I've ever experienced, it never arrived ... So I was forced to drive to Yorkdale Mall to catch the TTC ... Every time I'm at Yorkdale, it's always mad busy ... Today, it was like a tomb ...

I went with my mother to Best Buy to get a price adjustment on a computer that we purchased ... It went down by $100 since we purchased it ... But the crappy part was waiting in the customer service line for more than an hour ... Boy was I p!ssed ...

When I was web surfing a couple days ago, I hit up YouTube ... There are a lot of celebrities that have posted video podcasts ... Where they give their opinions on "what's now" ... It's pretty cool ... That's something I'd like to do, if I had the time ... Not saying I'm a celebrity or anything ... But it'd be like blogging on video ... Just another idea, probably won't happen ... I have neither a digital video camera or webcam ... If I did it, I would probably have to do it with a panel of people ... I usually get good roundtable discussions with my boys Prophet, Anthro and Octal, I even get into good debates with my cousin Zona, but the regular Joe schmos watching the videos could care less about some of the things we have an opinion on ... I could get my other boys like Shivers and Trickz, the content would be humourous, BUT if you put three jokers like us on a video, with our sense of humor YouTube would pull the videos in a heartbeat ... I guess I have to wait for some celebs to contact me to do a podcast ... My dream podcast panel would definitely include Charles Barkley, Bob McCowan, Dave Chappelle, Jessica Alba and myself, those are all I can think of right now ...

Zona already commented on it, but the new American Gladiators is just horrible ... The biggest waste of an hour out of my entire Christmas break ...

Raps game; Fam; Roller Coasters

-just got back from the Raptors-Cavaliers game ... LOL ... LMFAO ... As promised, I was booing Calderon mercilessly ... however, with every assist or point, my Fam was heckling me back the same way ... Again, I will emphasize, Jose's statline today 16pts, 11asts, but he needed 40+ minutes of play to do it ... TJ gets close to the same stats in just over 25 minutes/game ...LeBron James is something else, no matter how much hate I have for the guy basketball-wise, I cannot question his ability ... Calderon on the other hand, if he pulls up one more time, when the Raptors have numbers on the break, I'm boycotting watching Raptor games until TJ gets back ... Jose is obviously trying to protect his Ast/TO ratio stat ... People make such a big deal about that stat, but my response, "what great player in the league doesn't turn the ball over, more specifically PG's: ie. Nash, Kidd, Wade, Arenas" ... Muggsy Bogues was an Ast/TO ratio leader, but was he a great player? No! ... After the Raps blew the 20 point lead, my whole Fam was like, "It's your fault J" ... my rebuttal, "If TJ was playing, they would've won!", LOL ... The Fam kicked it at my cousin's MLSE condo after the game ... I took some pix on the balcony mocking Jose's "three-finger salute" ... I'm sure those'll be posted on Facebook sometime soon, LOL ...

-Much of the Fam discussion was about my cousin Tatsu's wedding in 2009 ... Boy I'm looking forward to it ... They're planning to have the ceremony up north ... The thing that I'm glad about the most is that I'm not a part of the bridal party ... Last Fam wedding, I was the best man, while it was an honour, it was a huge responsibility and exhausting at the same time ... While I love being in front of cameras, the whole day it was like "OK, let me get a couple of shots of you", "now position yourself this way" ... You're literally the third biggest celebrity of the day, behind the bride and groom of course ...

-I was reading the papers yesterday and watching the news ... I heard about some guy in Saudi Arabia for his blog ... Damn, do we take freedom of speech for granted ...

-I couldn't get to sleep last night, so right now I'm running on adrenaline ... Trying to get to sleep last night, I surfed the web ... I was looking up roller coasters and watching the POV videos ... Most specifically roller coasters from Six Flags Great America in New Jersey and Cedar Point in Ohio (coaster capital of the world) ... When I was at Six Flags back in '01, they just opened the Nitro, which is the exact same height and speed as Canada's Wonderland's new Behemoth, opening this year ... since then, they've opened a couple new roller coasters: El Toro (the world's second highest wooden roller coaster and steepest slope), that coaster puts our Minebuster to shame ... The other is the Kingda Ka (a coaster, instead of dropping you down a hill, lauches you up a 400+ foot hill, using hydraulics) ... Cedar Point has a coaster that is the same model as the Kingda Ka, dubbed the Top Thrill Dragster and another 300+ foot steel drop coaster, the Millenium Force ... Looking at all these coasters, I was like a kid again, saying "I gotta go to Ohio and New Jersey", "Wonderland needs those coasters" ... You're only as young as you feel ...

I'm absolutely exhausted ...

Retro Blog: Arizona 2003

I was cleaning off my hard drive and came across some old documents … Before this whole Facebook insanity, there was Asian Avenue … I had my own page on that as well … Now I somewhat used it to write out log entries … In 2003 (I can’t believe it’s been 5 years), I went on a trip to Phoenix, Arizona and I kept a log on my AA page … I found this a couple days ago and read it for the first time since I saved it to file … All I can say is Wow, for all the things that’ve changed in the past 5 years, my personality (and writing style with the triple “…”) have barely changed … The only major difference in my life back then as opposed to now was having a girlfriend, but boy am I glad I got rid of her … Here are the original posts, completely un-edited … enjoy …

1st Blog of '08; Randoms

Happy New Year everyone, I’ve taken a little hiatus, trying to recharge before getting back to routine ... Hope everyone’s New Year’s Eve was well spent, I’ll describe mine with two words “random” and “vindication” ... details? ... No comment, LOL ...

-I didn’t really take advantage of the boxing day/week sales this year ... funds tapped out, for one ... and two, there’s nothing that I really want right now ... I love clothing and electronics, but I don’t really have an urge right now to buy anything new ... I purchase most of my clothing in the States, two reasons: 1) a hell of a lot cheaper, 2) I don’t like wearing things others might already have in their wardrobe ... As for electronics, I usually wait for Wal-Mart to jack down the prices on movies and games ...

-I spent last Saturday before New Year’s Eve, working home renovations with my dad ... I’ve learned pretty much everything involved with “work” from my father, that’s more than I can say for people that’ve married into my family, that don’t even know how to use screw drivers, damn s!ssy boys ...

-The GO Bus drivers better not go on strike next week ...

-So a loony man, brushed off airport security, got on a plane and caused a ruckus at Pearson International Airport ... Man, 6.5 years removed from 9/11 and airport security is still a touchy issue ...

-speaking of loons, Britney got checked into a hospital, I know I promised before not to mention her, but this is too good to pass up ... they suspect something is wrong with her mentally ... My question is, after how many years of “odd” behaviour, they just now realized there is something wrong with her? ... that coupled with Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy, to steal a joke from Jay Leno (on a Fresh Prince episode), “now there’s a family that puts the ‘fun’, in dysfunctional” ...

-damn rising oil prices ...

-The Canadian Dollar still hovering above par, defying many analysts ...

-Barack Obama has taken the first steps in achieving the presidency ... A minority or female U.S. President, it's about time ...

-this whole Facebook thing has police p!ssed ... they apparently have group sites mentioning the 14-year-old Toronto stabbing victim’s name, which is against Canadian law ... officials are looking to get new regulations on it ...

-speaking of Facebook, some “older” people in my family have now signed up ... my parents are laughing it all off, saying that these “older” people have absolutely nothing better to do ... I haven’t rejected too many friend requests, but I’ll be sure to reject these from those family members ... LOL, cold huh? ... "you know it's time to get off Facebook when?" ...

-Damn you TSN for not airing the Anthony Peterson fight in favour of junior hockey ... Actually I blame the CRTC for c*ckblocking all the great U.S. channels, ie. ESPN, TNT, HBO, USA, there’s a lot more, that I just can’t think of right now ...

-2008 will be another great year for boxing: the Kelly Pavlik-Jermain Taylor & Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez rematches; Bernard Hopkins will challenge undefeated, undisputed champion Joe Calzaghe; Oscar De La Hoya will announce his next opponent soon (hopefully Miguel Cotto) ... Looks like some of the division titles will finally be unified, the heavyweights have a sort of mini-tournament going on to unify their belts ... hopefully Cotto will follow suit in the the welterweight division, collecting more belts (in particular the IBF and WBO titles) to add to his WBA title, then setting up an anticipated superfight with Floyd Mayweather (WBC and The Ring champion) to unify the title ...

-the death of that Korean boxer is really unfortunate, what’s odd is he actually won the fight ... my sis said to me “and you and dad like that violent sport” ... new rules and regulations have decreased the number of deaths in boxing, but there will always be that risk ...

-I read my NBA predictions blog and I’m still sticking to them ... Boston over Detroit in the East; Phoenix over San Antonio in the West; with Phoenix taking Boston in the Final ...

-I’ve taken my first step towards Raptor hatred ... I found myself cheering for the Pistons in tonight’s game, LOL ... watching Chauncey Billups carve up Jose Calderon was a thing of beauty, LOL ... I’ve always liked Chauncey (ahhhh, another one of those “what might’ve been if he stayed with the Raptors” stories) ... he’s one of my top 10 fave players in the league ... this again demonstrates why Calderon is not a starter in this league ... He simply gets abused by elite level PG’s ... people like to compare Jose to Nash (which I think is basketball blasphemy, they shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath), but despite being a below average defender, Nash is still able to hold his own against other PG’s ... watching the Raptor games this year, Jose’s been exposed by Nash, Billups, Paul, Baron Davis, Deron Williams, the list goes on and on ... not just the elite PG’s, but the subpar ones as well, ie Rajon Rondo ... TJ, despite being under 6-feet, with his lateral quicks is able to hold his own ...

-I’ll be at the game this Sunday against the Cavs, my two least favourite players in the building at one time ... Jose Calderon and LeBron James ... I will be booing Calderon heavily ...

-I read somewhere that some people have been making a couple thousand dollars here and there for blogging ... One guy gets money from advertisers, as he blogs about the best places to eat in New York City ... His blog site gets a couple thousand hits a day ... Looking at my stats, my career high for a day is 17, I’ve still got a ways to go, LOL ... honestly this blogging thing is just fun for me, just trying to entertain my 2-3 faithful readers ... but hey, If someone is dumb enough to pay me to do this, bring it ... heck, I’ll blog 3 times a day, if someone paid me 2-3 grand weekly ...
