Asian Handicap

If you haven’t already, click on the YouTube link up above ... there you have an Asian girl, Cathy Nguyen, who sings the same style as pop’s current princess, Miley Cyrus ... Cathy’s voice is 1000x more appealing, as are her looks ... but Cyrus is the multi-million-pushing-billionaire while Cathy is without a deal ... how twisted is that? ... that’s probably the biggest beef I have with the music and entertainment industry ... talent and now apparently even looks aren’t enough to get you to the top (unlike sports where talent is always recognized) ... it’s what’s “marketable”, which takes us to my point about the Asian Handicap ... you’ll never see an Asian rise to the top in the American (or Canadian) market, unless they’re mixed ... don’t believe me ... well, name one ... Apl.de.ap? looks more black ... Nicole from Pussycat Dolls? looks more white ... Cathy Nguyen is mixed, but looks more Asian ... I’m not gonna pull out the racism card, because I think that’s been overused ... I’ll just say that the psyche of overall society is tough to change ... small moves ... but if you ask me how long it will take for an Asian to crack the North American market, I’ll say at the minimum, the same amount of time it took for the United States to elect a black President ...

Soooo bitter.
You Forget Lucy Liu and All the other established Asian actors. As well as Jin, and the Jabawokies. And I didn't even mention your man crush, Manny. Its happening before your eyes and you are missing it.

Miley Cyrus is famous for one reason and one reason only: her father. If that father was asian we would be talking about Miley Nguyen.

who's bitter? just tellin' the truth ... Lucy Liu is not A-list, never has been ... Jin, had his 15mins, if you can even call it that ... Jabbawockeez, let's see if you're still bigging them up in 3 years ... re: Manny, I acknowledged that, in sports its different, b/c talent is recognized regardless, my beef is with Music & Entertainment ... but if Miley's dad was Asian, you would've never heard about her @ss ...

Lucy Liu has been A-List for years. Especially around her Ally McBeal Days. And as for the Jabbawockees its almost been 3 years since they won that show and they are still getting bigger.

If you took Billy Ray Cyrus and made him asian, Miley would be just as famous. Hollywood is all about who you know, not what you know.

Lucy Liu A-List? again, that's news to me, funny you never hear her mentioned on the daily on those Hollywood news shows or see her as a leading lady on a film ... Jabbawockeez getting bigger? says who? career growth in dancing only takes you so far, regardless of race ...

and yeah, if you took Billy Ray Cyrus and made him Asian, I'm sure that would've went over well with his main fanbase in the Southern States ... if he was Asian doing country music, you would've never heard about Billy Ray's @ss ...

it's still an Asian Handicap, if Asians are still not commonplace ... regardless if Lucy Liu or Jabbawockeez are A-List or not, that's subjective, fact is they are still "one offs" "exceptions to the rule" ... Asians don't have a big North American market, they're still pretty much token ...
