Blog time again ... If you read the title, you know what direction this blog is going ... What can I say about it, except it's a fact ... I am in no way condemning a particular race, but there is no doubt in my mind that it is a different ball game for visible minorities in Canada ... I read a few interesting facts, studies were performed and they showed that: the average wages of visible minorities is lower than that of non-visible minorities, white employers tend not to hire minorities for management positions, less than a quarter of skilled immigrants (professionals and educated in foreign countries) are working in their field in Canada and job applications are disgarded if employers cannot pronounce the last name of the applicant ... Being in a corporate environment for years, I can testify to all of this ... looking at the demographic of my former department, about 90% of the workers are white, all of whom are in frontline positions ... More interesting though, looking at the demographic of the company's corporate structure: Almost the entire Board of Directors are white, visible minorities in middle-management are few and far between, front line positions is about 75% white and most visible minorities in the company can be found in support positions ... Is all of this coincidence? Hell No! ... We have skilled people in Canada working in convenience stores, factories and driving taxi cabs ... Don't get me wrong, not all white people are racist, but there is no doubt in my mind that racist attitudes still exist in Canada, the only problem is, it is harder to fight it, because the discrimination has become more subtle ... I'm not knocking Canada, there are great opportunities in this country, BUT, to say visible minorities are on par with their white counterpart, would be inaccurate to say the least.
